Nedd help with 3126 with excessive oil burn and very hard starting.....fuel pump and sensors have been replaced.
first thing first is how many miles does this motor have. if alot then the you could be looking at piston rings this motor sucks because it does not have removable liners like its big brothers. if that is the case then the motor will have to be pulled bored and sleeved and rebuilt which when you do the pricing its cheeper to find a good used one and swing it in

Regarding my Kennedy post: the shops computer download was inconclusive, no codes, except for a previous high oil pressure code that had been reset. The non factory tech suggested i change the sensor for oil pressure on top of engine by valve cover before i try anything else. It was a 115.00 part but SOLVED the problem! I was seroiusly conidering the very messy old school injector oil supply leak down suggested in another test.

I have a 3126 200 model, very hard starting. First replaced The timming sensors, Then cleaned and inspected engine harness, then replaced fuel transfer pump and all lines to tank, including ckeck valve in rear of head, next had cat flash the ECM with the lastest upgrades. Still hard starting. The fuel pressure is good, the oil pressure for the inj. is 2000-2200 within first engine rotations.Outside temp does not make a differance. Truck has to be plugged in and ether has to be used in summer. Pro link showes no codes. If you have any idea's please email at reed@bresnan.net

Just purchased a 2002 6500 Chev with Cat. Previous owner says it will just quit every so often. After a half hour it will start again. What might be the problem. 270000 miles. Do not know much history. Thank you.

TOM, how hydraulic oil press do you have in the crancking moment when not starter the engine.
You can test with the pressure gauge (0 to 3000 psi) with 700psi the engine it should start.
Check else to move back (to tank) the fuel.
WARNING
You can to disconnect pre-heater and prove with little ether, if the engine starter then it havenīt fuel in the injector.
To dismount the six injectors and to replace the seal oīring 1258274,OR rehammer cylinder head in the injector housing ( lodgings), excuse me my english isnīt good.

I am in the same market. I am looking at a Kenworth T300 'bobtail' truck. It is a 2002 Cat 3126 and it has an Allison 3060, six speed auto trans, 4:63 rear end. They rate the motor at 275 hp. I need to pull a 12,000 pound trailer (not 5th wheel). Do you think this cat has enough to do it> I am presently using a 2500 Dodge with a 5.9 cummins,,,,,,I am really putting the hurt on it.
I have a 3126 in an application that is about 28,00 pounds total and it does Great. I too was towing a very heavy trailer with a Dodge 3500 that has a ton of engine modifications to the 5.9 Cummins, running a little more than 450 HP. I get better milage and drivablity with the Cat due to the better gearing of the Alison and the rear end ratio of about 4.80. Hope this information helps.

I know this is a 3126 forum, but I am having promblems with removing block heater element from a 3116. From what I've been told its just pressed in and should pry out. Done this, even try chisel all around to force it out enough to get behind but will not budge. Can anyone help
