Some guys like to go fishing that early in the morning, but it is the LEAST LIKELY time of day for suicide. So what evidence of suicide do they really have???? Get my point????

Do I hear a bunch of chickens clucking????????
Why is everybody obsessed with murders that are 40yrs old(the Winets) and 10yrs old (Schwend) and care nothing about something that happened recently and is a little suspicious?? Is everyone living in the past or do you like to wait until decades past to decide its time that something gets solved???? Reopen the Winet case and see if it can be solved with new technology. Try and find out more about the Silver Lake victim to prove for sure suicide or murder. |

Little Miss of Minn, MN my sympathy to you and your friends family. No one was coming back with comment or answers and it was very frustrating. Like they did not care what really happen to this guy. I could not find anything in the papers beyond a very small report and was looking for answers. With so little said about this after the headlines "Body found in Lake", I really thought that it was being covered up. And from what I know of Madison county is about like Cook (Crook) County as things do sometimes get swept under the table if you know what I mean. Can you tell us all that you know about the case??????

Exactly what I already said. The witness seen him walking down the bridge with the block and thought it was strange. Past his car with the door open and called it in. Meanwhile he jumps. When the police arrived he had already jumped and then the rest I have already written.
Why did it take you so long to respond? The police report does not say there were called to the seen shortly after he jumped and it does not say the witness saw him jump off the bridge. It just says a witness saw him on the bridge at 5:38am. Who was the witness?

How does one tie a cinder block to his hand with only one hand available to tie it tight. Most people wouldn't be able to tie it tight enough to prevent the hand from slipping through.

On the morning this happened, State & County were busy searching for 3 suspects in a car who shot at police during a traffic stop. The call for this went out to HPD around 6AM and they were asked to go to the rest stops on 70 to look for this person. The State had someont on the way.
My understanding from listening to this on my scanner, is that this person left a note or called someone who contacted the State to have someone look for him. I haven't heard anyone from his family complaining about the investagtion which makes me think that they knew he was suicidal. |
Do you know any more details about this. It seems so suspicious. Witness with exact time to the minute, wrong time of day for suicide, cinder block tied to his hand, and no real details if there was a note IN HIS HANDWRITING that is. I just think the pieces of the puzzle don't fit together well.
I know the Police did not release any information about a cinderblock. That "rumor/fact" was started by the driver from ADR who came out to get the car.
Also, I think the "witness" called to tell police there was someone on the highway and he was worried about his safety. They get a lot of calls like that, and have to respond to each one they get. I don't know if it was a note or a phone call, Highland was getting "walked on" by County & State looking for the shooters (found in a trailer park). |
Even if HPD was getting walked on by County and State, it still DOES NOT EXCUSE a proper investigation. Don't you agree?
How do you know the investigation wasn't proper? State, Mad Co, HPD & Conservation Dept were all looking for the man/body. They were looking from roughly 6AM until 5PM. The Coroner took the body and autopsy was done the next day. Funeral Director took the body afterwards to prepare for the service. Don't you think that any one of those agencies would have said something if the investigation & body didn't match what they say the outcome was? Wouldn't someone have said something to the family or the family to them? And wouldn't a family member have gone to the News if they thought it wasn't looked into properly?

Janisjoplin,
Like I said certain things just don't fit the typical suicide pattern, wrong time of day for suicide, cinder block tied to arm, no suicide note and no one saw him jump. Even if there was a suicide note, handwriting should be analized to determine if it was his. Autopsy does not mean they did a complete forensic workup. In general, an autopsy is taking samples of tissue from different parts of the body and looking under the mircoscope to determine cause of death. Cause of death would be drowning, but autopsy would not necessarily determine suicide in this case, but proper foresnsics might determine it was not suicide. |

"aLMOst broke" come on please stick to one id. You should just make it sherman something since your so bent on the man. LOL
Need to know, Is there any tangible evidence you have to believe that this was not a suicide? It is hard to believe when a loved one has quit on life. It is hard to accept that they left so much pain inside that their suffering be so great they could not see beyond. With suicide vics. there is one very common pattern. They go thru a very hard time in their life like being jobless or losing their home, divorce, or such. Then things get better for them they find a job or what ever it is, their life turns for the better and that is when they commit suicide. Shrinks are yet to understand why this happens but the statistic numbers of suicides do not lie. It is also a well known fact that men chose a more gruesome way to die. Hanging, shooting, drowning are common forms. Whereas most women tend to overdose by chemical form usually drugs. Self murder is a hard thing to swallow especially if it is someone you have cared about. The average time of suicide is actually 11am. Odd time don't you think? Statistics do not lie though. Most common day of the week is a Tuesday. Most common day of the year is June the 11th. Unless your a family member who needs help filing a complaint about procedures or protocol not being following with the body I do not see any reason for this case to be a focus any further. |

Janis and Bolide,
Please stick to the questions and evidence. It's about the facts, the evidence. Who was the witness? Is there a relationship business or personal, direct or indirect to the victim (friend of or aquaintence of someone who knew him)? Did he actually see the man jump? What was the witness doing, driving by at 5:38am? Did Investigators/Police find a suicide note? Was the note in the victim's handwriting?? Were the investigators able to forensically determine the time of death to be after the witness phone call? Or was it murder and the witness called it in after the fact??? How does one tie a cinder block to their hand with only one had free to tie it? Again, the least likely time for suicide is between 4am and 8am. This took place around 5:30am. Not many people call in something suspicious and recall the exact time to the minute they saw the event; and if they are REALLY concerned about a person's safety, they usually stick around until the police get there. For your information, weights tied to a body, be it cider blocks or whatever are typically murder victims and this is typical of a gang/Mafia style murder. I'm just saying I smell a rat!!!! |

This is a main road to get to the Interstate. It wouldn't be at all unusual that Highland's commuters would driving on that road at that time of the morning.
Let's look at the flip-side. Why would anyone want this guy dead? He worked as a laborer for the Illinois Department of Transportation, no? Not exactly a mob hooked-up job. Did he have a drug record? I gather from the previous posts that he was in the throws of a divorce. Did his wife have any unsavory connections? You see where I am going with this. It's not enough just to 'have a feelng' or say things don't statistically add up. There's always something outside the norm. |

If there was a cynder block tied to one arm.. I would also have to question how it is that he did it. |
OK, last night I asked a friend of mine if it was possible to tie a cynder block to one arm with only one hand loose to do it with. He said yes it is very possible. Put the block down on a flat surface... run a rope or whatever thru the block, rest the wrist down on the block and tie your knot. Women do this when putting on a bracelet with a latch. It is possible.
Hey Baby-sitter,
Try this with a really thick rope, thick enough to hold a heavy cinder block and not break when you jump, and then see just how tight you can tie it to your wrist with one hand. If you were going to tie a cinder block to yourself, why would you struggle with your arm. Why not tie it to your leg or waist just before you jump??? |

I feel you are trying to make something out of nothing.
