All of us here in southern illinois, southern indiana and west kentucky need to settle our differences if we have them. Union miners dont need to look down their noses at non-union miners and non-union miners dont need to be contentious and hostile towards the union miners. When it is all said and done union blood and non-union blood both run red and our families all cry the same bitter tears when we are hurt and when we die.

I hate to say it but the truth needs to be said. The UMWA was at one time one of the greatest organized labor movements to march on Gods green earth. But now for the most part the UMWA is dying and has lost its teeth. We need a new union made up of coal miners that will fight for coal miners and will only bargain with companies that are part of one coal operators association. We dont need to be fractured between sanitation workers and hospital workers and fire department employees and etc.

But with the economy being what it is and with cecil roberts fornicating with the coal industry hating al gores and barack obamas we had better do something and we better do it fast.

I'm locked into a low wage job because us steel hasn't signed on to the latest umwa contract. I can only earn $1,999.00 per month or lose my healthcare. The new contract eliminates this cap.
What are the chances US Steel will get back into the mining business with the UMWA operation?

I am a surving spouse of a coal miner who last worked for US Steel before he became disable. He passed away in Mar 2006, I applied for his healthcare benefits but was denied because I had a job and made more than $2000 a mth. This is a shame, my husband worked 20+ years thinking he would not have to worry about insurance when he retired. But you know what the sad thing is, even if he were alive, he still wouldn't be able to get his healthcare insurance just because I have a good paying job. I feel betrayed!! All of the promises made to coal miners, who worked half of their lives giving everyday of themselves to their employer only to be done like this. Shameful.

I found this video link on this months UMWA website. http://www.umwa.org/

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Its pretty much a freaking horror movie right out of the pits of bloody hell.

From what i understand DOTIKI MINE has 30+ miles of belt line from it farthest unit to its prep plant. It costs the company a fortune to service and maintain that much belt line. They were planning to build a new high volume prep plant not too far from their units and install five additional miner units. But the very day after Obama was elected they put the new prep plant on indefinite hold and immediately cancelled orders for the five new continuous miners. They were smart to do that with some of the new taxes obama is now proposing to be placed on the coal industry.

Cecil Roberts is for the most part a cheap pimp who whored out the UMWA rank and file.

The end result of Cecil Roberts and Daniel Kanes leadership roles will be the UMWA canibalizing itself completely out of existence and destroying the future security of the coal industry.

We need a new union folks. And it needs to be a miners union comprised only of miners operating under one single BCOA contract.

It needs to be a miners union made up of miners and if a man hasnt paid his dues on a pinner and by hossling cable then he shoudnt be considered a candidate for president or treasurer of the new miners union.

it all just one big sham for the bad worker.i worked non union and union mines the one of the differences is pay and extra money that's comes from union brothers pa to represent them. In other words if you are a good worker you would not need a union rep to help you keep your job. while at a union mine i see them treating contractors like crap, and they get them all kicked out well let me tell you brother we all start somewhere and 90 percent of the people getting hired in the mines are experienced contractors...unless of course you have a family member in the mine that can get you in so lets all say hurray for the union workers that bleed, fight and knuckle for the union might as well call it a cult against the world...just keep it in the family. And i wouldn't be so upset if the contractor work on the belts would of been done by union brothers but they all complained they didn't want to stay in and do the work so go figure. why are we even alive if we are going to discriminate. And let me tell you all something else i was represented and my union rep couldnt even mail me a letter to save my job because he was buddy buddy with one of the company personel
