At least they didn't name anything after the current day politicians. Oh, we already have Eason Stadium and Kearney Park. Any other landmarks I'm leaving out?

Well, good luck with it because they're about 2 years behind the town center trend. I just hope its not too late.

1 It's Darling Stadium not Eason Stadium. The adjacent Eason Park is named for the first Parks & Rec Director of the City of Hampton and former Hampton crabber's football coach. Kearny Park which is nothing more than a small Plaza is named after former Judge Kearny not Mayor Kearny. I don't belive either Mayor Kearney or former Mayor Eason have any landmarks named after them even though they each, in thier own way, have made significant contributions to public service and not just as mayors but through their work in the community. |

I agree to a small point that we're overloading ourselves with town centers in the Hampton Roads area, however, it will be much better (at least for a little while) than what the Coliseum Mall came to be over the years. The old mall was falling apart, and all the of the stores catered to the ghetto trash (except for B&N, JCP, and Macy's). The last few times I was at that mall before it was torn down, I found myself looking over my shoulders constantly, not a good feeling. I can't wait for the new town center to open!! Lets hope it stays safe for everyone and no more ghetto trash!! |

What the hay does AI have to do with this? yet another disgruntled individual who just can't let go. |

I hope it is successful but I think everyone is deluding themselves if they think it's not going to be full of "hood rats" wandering in packs. The truth is that the new design will make it harder for security to be effective; too, too many places for the "hood rats" to hide and commit their crimes.

Wow, some of you folks are downright hysterical over your prejudiced perceptions. If you're so afraid of what the Town Center might be in your eyes, don't frequent the place. Stay @ home and look over your shoulder in the privacy of your own cave. You're scaring yourselves silly.

I just want to know WHO is going to want to move in to these upscale apartments smack in the middle of Hampton?
I wish there was covered walkways- other wise ya end up parking, shopping, moving your car to another lot closer to the next store etc when the weather is bad.
I stopped going to coliseum mall LONG before it closed due to the class of people hanging out. Its not condusive to a good shopping experience if you are on "caution mode" the entire time. |

It sounds like you would not be one of those WHO will move in the apartments but their is a market out there for those who will. |

According to the article: "As many large projects nationwide are being scaled back or canceled because of financing issues, Peninsula Town Center is in good shape, managers said. Money issues were taken care of well before the credit crunch that emerged late last year, and Mall Properties internally finances new projects." So where do you get the idea that taxpayer money is paying for this??? |
That is yet to be seen...what happened to the luxury apartments in Norfolk and NN?? They are having a hard time selling those. Coliseum Mall area is not exactly "upscale living" |

Really STINKS that they didnt come up with names of people who really made a difference in the community!! I know these people had a hand in it,BUT, what about long standing DR.'s in the area or a congressmans wife who has a library after her husband.
Soon we will have a place named after all thsoe in Council. Blah blah blah! |
I wish they would of named the streets after more people i heard of! Or who deserve it, not that those mentioned don't..
How about Mrs.Bateman or Mrs.Davis OR a few DR.'s who are outstanding in the community..OR after our fine Military..How about Freedom Way or Bateman Drive, Davis Drive, Military Drive?? Come on Council/City whoever did the schnit..Better names people ! I really think that apartments there will NOT go over well..I think Hampton is wasting more money as usual! God help us with FT.Monroe, the city will mess that beautiful place up more and more. Gonna miss the Military there! Angela Leary ran the poor people off her street and had that housing tore down* which it was bad, but they could of built better places there and let them stay* instead of demanding they get off her street cause they were bad and ruining her neighborhood off King Street, She of course was never down on her luck. I bet she is so happy since she has fancy new houses on her street now! And Kearney now wishes he would of fought harder for FT,Monroe..WHAT A BONEHEAD! We need to vote these people OUT! |

Yes, I am skeptical about security's ability to control the "hood rats" as you call them in the new parking garage. They could be sitting in their vehicles just waiting for some unsuspecting shopper to return to their car. Sigh...I don't know why the city felt it needed to built a parking garage. They don't seem to get the reality of who is living in Hampton (like the hood rats you point out.)

Why do we act like crime in Hampton is unbelievably high? Yes, there will be incidents but they would not be avoided with or without parking garages. Why do we want a sprawling parking lot with a sea asphalt? Do any of you travel who have issues with these garages. Most cities are getting away from sprawling parking space so they can maximize the space provided. |
