Full story: Orlando Sentinel

Coming to a store near you: even higher prices. Most inflation this year has come from food and fuel, as retailers resisted passing along to strapped consumers the higher prices manufacturers charged them, but ...

here comes the "mental recession" part of this economy. The very cool thing about all this is Americans are smarter than the big box stores give us credit for. We have all made adjustments to our spending habits and are starting to see the results. Is it just me or am I the only one who sees less cars on the road? This is what we must do. If we all cut our driving by 25 percent gas prices are going to go down. Way down. As supply and demand formulas kick in, it will "trickle up to every supplier. Keep up the good work friends....I dont miss the things I have cut down on.

Corporate profits went up double digits during the 1st 4 years of the Bush Administration. Earned income stayed at 7. something. During the Clinton administration both were 7. something. GREED has such a strangle hold on humanity that we may never get out from it's grasp. Left unrestrained it will result in our demise. I do my part to rein in cost.....no more babies, wear shoes until the sole is worn down fully, mend my clothes over and over, make more casseroles and one pot meals. Drive only when needed. The beach is a block away but I did spring for season passes to a local water park. My family rides our bikes there. Even if I were lucky enough to come into big bucks I would still live my life like a roving hippie. The Patriots knew what to do too. STOP BUYING!

You are right on Rocky ! I purchased a motorscooter and SAVE 13 gallons of gas per week ( sure it will take a year for that to make up for buying the scooter, but the fact is that I am SAVING 13 gallons per week.....)
If every American driver would have 5 gallons per week, it would hit the oil companies HARD.
As for buying "stuff", I have cut back on that too. Instead of giving "stuff" as gifts, try giving SERVICES---ie, manicures, pedicures, spa gift certificates, landscaping, house cleaning...you name it.
This keeps money in AMERICANS pockets and keeps us working.( besides, I would rather have a massage than some tricket from China that I am going to throw in my next garage sale.)

With the news today that two more US banks have failed, I thought it would be useful to see where we are with the continuing collapse of the global financial system.

Failed Banks So far:

Northern Rock
Bear Stearns
IndyMac
First Integrity Bank
ANB Financial
Hume Bank
Douglas National Bank
First Heritage Bank
First National Bank of Nevada

Forthcoming failures(?):

Barclays (senior execs jumping ship right now!)
Bradford & Bingley
HBOS
Downey Financial
Corus Bankshares
Doral Financial
FirstFed Financial
Oriental Financial
BankUnited Financial
Washington Mutual

… and many more. Keep you posted.

If you factor in inflation, gas is a bargain today compared to that 10 day period in the 70's.
The high oil prices haven't hurt me one bit, in fact it's made me and my friends super-rich!

The answer here is simple, build more venues, light rail trains,a few more gateways to the city, hire some more useless hacks, that have never worked a day in their worthless lives, and then raise up eveybody's property taxes to the level that bankrupts them, and then spend the next ten years studying why people cannot afford to spend anything.
Make sure you continue to say that all of the improvements we are getting rammed up you know where, are being paid for by the tourists, even though the tourists will only be paying for a small part of these grand plans.
I predict that when the tax on a hotel room is more than the price of a hotel room, everything will be OK.
Maybe by then we will be putting a dome on the citrus bowl so we can host the hot dog eating contest, I know Kevin Beary and Linda Stewart would vote yes for that one.
Man, with your attitude, I am surprised you even bother to get up in the morning.

Hey be
Until you start paying as much taxes as I do, you will never understand nothing, so save up your tips and go take a ride on the train somewhere.
Son, I'm sure I pay a great deal more taxes than you. I have been around a lot longer that you.
