While I'm not against these kind of stores - we do need the revenue - why can't we get a Barnes and Noble Book Store? Thes bath and linen stores are monuments to consumerism and only add to our hoarder mentalities. City leaders - bring a book store to Vallejo. Book stores uplift communities!

I don't get why BB&B thinks they can survive in that location when L&T couldn't make it there? I agree a bookstore would have rocked.

(LOL when I first wrote this, I typo-ed, "boobstore")

Years and years ago there used to be a Home Base in that location. It closed up, went out of business and Home Depot opened in its current location. Linens and Things doesn't exist anymore. Let's home BBB does better there and Vallejo can start getting some desperately needed tax revenue. I just hope they can find employees that don't rob them blind.

I agree a Copperfields or Barnes and Noble would be nice. Not too much shop lifting at book stores.

Although it's more pleasurable to see these stores than empty buildings, basically, these stores are replacing other stores that generally sold the exact/same items as the stores that were there before. Party America is now Party City. Longs Drugs is now CVS/Pharmacy. And where Linens N Things was, will now be a Bed, Bath & Beyond. That's like taking a Taco Bell and replacing it with a Del Taco. I don't see any new devolopment here. Even in the Solano 80 Center. We're getting a new style Taceo Bell, which is right next to the old Taco Bell. Harbor Freights is getting a new building, right next to the old Harbor Freights. This is not new tax revenue for the city. I'm still wondering if and when the parking structure is completed for the ferry parking, there will be some sort of parking charges. I'm tired of seeing a single family home go up at the corner of a busy intersection where instead there could've been a store of some kind. Something that actually generates revenue.

Too Funny! Seriously though, the city needs the revenue. We have to be thankful that we are getting an established business. Would you rather have another smoke shop?

As soon as more established businesses set-up shop, hopefully be viable in the city, others will follow suit. Agree with a bookstore, however, let's take them as they come. Sooner or later, when this economy turns, we will get a much needed bookstore.

Now, if only they can balance the losses from local shop lifters with those who actually pay for their item.

First, the Vallejo Unified School District will have to teach all of their students to read and keep them in school long enough to graduate before you will ever see a Barnse & Noble come to Vallejo.

Not enough consumer demand for B&N to open up here. They have been trying to bring one here for the last 15 years.

Where are you people buying your sheets, towels, tablecloths, etc.? Oh, I forgot, you buy those things in other cities and contribute to their tax base, but complain that there are no stores in Vallejo. The closest BB&B is in Vacaville, along with the Factory Stores, Lowe's, Nugget, etc.
There would be a great location for a Barnes & Noble at the old CostPlus (World Market), but can we convince them that Vallejo would support them? I know I would!

I like BB&B. Heck I was looking for one the other day to buy a Brita with one of those coupons. The closest was Larkspur or Rohnert Park. Heck, I'm always in Vallejo tending to family matters. I would have went there if it was open.

It may finally be time for Barnes & Nobles to look a that property. What with SCC up the hill...
Some time ago the manager of the B&N in Fairfield told me that they were looking at that Gateway property... so who knows....

I agree with the others who want a Barnes & Nobles. They could also put Borders Books like the one in Emeryville. Hmm... How about a food court where the old Cost Plus location also. Just my thought...
