I too had a nasty experience while trying to make a purchase at TALBOTS WOMEN'S CLOTHING STORE. The same situation happened with me. I had plenty of funds in my account and Certegy declined my check and Talbots would not accept my check. Talbots store manager would not make any exceptions and I've been a loyal customer for years. I WILL NEVER SHOP AT TALBOTS again for delivering such unsatisfactory customer service. As for Certegy, it is obvious this system is similar to a robot. Should I know of any merchants planing on utilizing their services I will warn them the retailer may loose customers.

Thanks for the information. While looking up locations of Talbots in my area, I came across you comments. When I read them, I remembered shopping at a Talbots in Newport News, VA and, I don't know about checking systems, I found the sales staff there to be unfriendly. They followed two of us (adults and well-dressed) around and around the store. We both felt self-conscious about nothing and finally reminded the woman that we were just looking (actually, we were looking for suits and I like to pick out my own.) I don't know about anyone else, but I detest some salespersons picking out my clothing for me when they don't have a clue.

I ordered a number of items and the fit was irratic...some too large aome too small all marked the same size. I returned them to a new store in Statesboro Georgia and hoped to find some items in my size and told the salesclerk I would shop around...HAH a bunch of small clothes, they do not acrry above size 16 and I wan not told this until I rounded the whole store in disappointment...what,only larger sizes in catalog...won't be back there

I shop at a Talbots in Columbus Ohio and have had no problems. The sales clerks are helpful when I need them to be but don't bother me if I am just in the mood to look.

I too shop at Talbots for Women in Columbus, Ohio. The sales staff has been very helpful. They helped me find the right size--even if it meant going down a size smaller than I thought. They have told me the truth when I ask if something fits or looks ok. And leave me alone when you are just looking.

I shop at Talbots frequently but have been disappointed in the quality of the clothes. Broken zippers, buttons falling off, zeams are uneven and I started going to other places to look for suits and causal wear. I live in Tulsa Oklahoma and the staff has always been friendly but I will say they do not keep people long.

I used to work at Talbots in Columbus, but not for the women's store. However, I haven't known any unfriendly or rude salespeople when I was there. As for the quality of the clothing, in my opinion it has declined in recent years, which leads me to say that the closing of the mens and kids division is meant to address that very issue. With Certegy as our check service, I had never had a problem until one day when a lady tried to pay with a check, it wouldn't accept it. But we didn't turn her away, either. We called Certegy, and they were very rude to us and informed us that our service had been suspended. So we called Corporate, who handled it from there. Within fifteen minutes we were back in business and able to process the lady's check. But it was very embarrassing for us behind the counter. Good sales associates want to do whatever we can for the client. Unfortunately though, there will always be lazy associates who don't care. :( I loved working there, though.

I am very sad that the corporate office decided to shut down the kid's and the men's divisions totally. I have been a satisfied customer and will have a hard time finding appropriate clothing for my 6 year old child once operations stop. i just hope the company will consider and at least stay even online only with special occassion kids dresses.

As for customer service, I might be a lucky one - in person or by phone, I always get excellent service.

I shop at the Talbot's store in Madison, where they have a Petite section, Misses section, and a Women's section. The same sales staff have worked there for years and know how to treat customers. They are very helpful, but leave you alone if that is what you want. They check the dressing rooms frequently to see if you want a different size or color of garment. My one complaint, and this is BIG, is that the clothing in their Spring and Summer 2008 lines is totally awful. Whoever did the buying this year really missed the boat. Much of what they are featuring looks like golf clothing from 1960. They need either new buyers, or bring back the old ones. My mother and sisters and I normally purchase most of our clothing from Talbot's, but this summer making a purchase was difficult.

I had a horrible experience at the Brandon, Fl. Talbots store. I was treated rudely by management when I asked for a legitimate discount offered in a Talbots corporate email. She made me feel that I was trying to commit fraud and was practically screaming at me before I walked out without purchasing at all. I am a huge fan of Talbots and will continue shopping with them, but not in Brandon, FL. I also agree with Mary L - the Spring and Summer lines were not very attractive.

While living in Okinawa, I shopped online with Talbots and had wonderful experiences. They chatted online with me and were very helpful. Returns, no problem! I would love to shop online, but I don't need any clothes and I have paid them off which is a great feeling! If I need anything, I would not hesitate to do business with Talbots again!

I have always found the staff at the retail stores helpful and not overbearing.I agree their recent clothing lines have left me very disappointed. I can not even find anything on sale to spend my Mother's Day gift card. The fall line doesn't look much better.
Recently I have made some purchases @ J.Jill owned by Talbot's and have been pleased.
Today I am going to Ann Taylor and Ann Taylor Loft.
Unless they find more attractive lines, I will not be shopping @ Talbots.

Farmington, Ct store

Yesterday, I was painting my house with my husband and remembered that I needed a suit for Monday- I quickly changed into casual cloths and went to the store- between three sections, there were seven customer service people- I was never acknowledged- One of the male clerks babbled along and was very 'animated" while i tried to figure out how come the shirts in the store are so wrinkled- If three people can stand around- they can obviously iron a shirt- The pants were horrible/selection- Finally, i was approached- but only briefly- goodbye Talbots.

I shop at the Talbots in Sugar Land, Texas. The sales people are always friendly and helpful. I am one who likes the help and service that the sales people there provide. In fact, that's one of the main reasons that I shop at that particular store. Great service, freindly sales people, and very helpful. I can't say enough good things about them.

If you are thinking about shopping at Talbots online - DON'T! I placed 2 orders in the past week that were completely botched. After confirming that both orders had been filled and were set to ship, I observed some unusual charges to my account. When I checked with another Talbot's rep., I learned that %50 of my order was no longer available. They didn't bother to tell me or modify earier confirmation e-mails. In addition, my credit card was over-charged.

The customer service line was apparently so innundated with complaints that it was not accepting calls. It would play a message then hang up on me. What a scam....

I have worked retail for years, and the problem is not Talbots but Certegy. Talbots does not use them any more and has changed to telecheck instead. I shop the Lincoln and Omaha talbots stores and always get great service. The Lincoln NE store now carries women sizes so they can fot from a petite size 2 to womens size 22. Maybe its your attitude when you are shopping. I have never gone into any Talbots and been treated badly, in fact the service is outstanding and the quality of the clothes has improved this last year. Give them another try, I think you will like what you see.

Who are your kidding.....if you dont get your order right Talbots goes out of their way to make it right, and if something is back-ordered you are not charged for it. Talbots does not hang up on you, stay on the line and they are very helpful

My experience with Town and County Talbot's in Houston have not been inviting
by any means -- the ass.manager Bobby is very strange, lazy, and rude.
My Grandmother with a cane had to stand because of her lack of compassion and respect toward senior's.

Confessions of a Former Talbots Sales Associate (one of the Southern CA. stores):

I have moved on from Talbots firstly, to become more involved with my future career while nearly finishing school and secondly, from the STRESS of retail. I was originally hired on by the district manager of my store and at the time she was desperately looking for a store manger. The woman she hired a few months later turned out to be a little bit crazy. I'm all about being professional and clean but this woman was the last resort from what I was told from people who knew and said that all of the other managers interviewed turned it down because of the pay or they were basically too good for the position.
One lady I had briefly met while she was waiting for the interview to begin, and I begged to God that she would be our boss because you could tell she was awesome (I've never been wrong about character) but of course she was too good. Damn. So... my manager we got stuck with turned out to be very hypocritical, wouldn't let a piece of paper sit in the trash for the next day we had to throw it out after already changing the trash for the night, and would yell at you for doing what she asked you to and then change her mind and would want you to immediately do something else. EIGHT people quit all in a matter of two weeks within each other about, from managerial staff (who by the way were also her age or a little older, not naive, and had come from many backgrounds of profession) down to our shipping lady who was always the SWEETEST lady you would ever meet! They quit either on the spot or gave two weeks notice. Finally the district manager somewhat scolded our store manager (so I heard) after a threat of suing Talbots for very serious harassment in the store and for writing her up for things she did not ever do and at least one person (including myself) was witness to each of the "claims" and the store manager and another "kiss-ass" asst. manager (who told me she didn't like the store manager either, but she had a weird personality of her own anyways) didn't even give a damn...
