The American lawyers have destroyed so much of this country and have increased expenses for everything from household products to insurance. This is no suprise here that only the lawyers win. This settlement should be reversed, I'd rather see the case lost.

are not these two Plaintiff attorneys touted as Champions for the people - gee, I suppose Esquire Nation may not be doing television and radio for free either huh?
While pro-bono should not apply for cases of such magnitude, one would think at least the people would be looked out for 4 cents per party - and at fees and taxable costs of some 1.4 million, not even bothering to send letters, set up a website?
quoting Roger Rabbit - puh leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeze
unbelievable - and we wonder why people have "wrong" or negative ideas about lawyers

Yes, some lawyers are crooks. But then again some police officers are crooks to. You cannot bunch up all lawyers in this category. If it weren’t for lawyers you wouldn't be able to walk down the street without risking injury. The greedy lawyers keep the greedy corporations in check.

Perspective-boy wrote: You want to talk about numbers? Here you go: fees- 1.4 million. Plaintiffs- 130 million. Total earned per plaintiff represented-$0.01. If they had to do ANYTHING for each plaintiff, even manually put the name on a list, that might be a justified argument, but do you really think they did anything for 130 million people. No, they got population numbers and estimates of the number of consumers involved.

well put, I agree 100%. PI Lawyer wrote: This is sad! There are many concientious lawyers out there, lawyers who put their clients first but this type of thing give us all a bad name. I hope that Ms. Stutzman attends the hearings, the fee hearings and continues to report on this matter. Also, I would like to see her do a story on Lawyers who sacrifice for their clients.

They should get no more than their true expenses (supported) and no more. If the class has to give their pittance to charity then so should the lawyers.

The article didn't say which charity would benefit. I have my suspicions. Yes, I will write to the Judge, if for no other reason than to provide a list of real charities that should receive funds.
I was part of a 'class' that I refused to join - survivors of people who had been exposed to asbestos and died horrible deaths due to a cancer called
The asbestos producers knew about the dangers and that there were other products that could be used instead. But they coldly calculated the cost of recalling products and replacing them, versus the number of deaths and the costs of the class action lawsuits. They decided the lawsuits would cost less.
This is why, in the long run, class action suits are self-defeating. They don't make corporations clean up their acts; they just make them look at every action solely in terms of costs. Those people who made the decision to keep quiet about asbestos should have been tried for murder, not sued for damages.
