This is just another example of the consumer getting the short end and lawyers making millions. The lawyers make fortunes while the consumer, or complainant gets nothing.

Msny politicians are lawyers and they make the law. Judges are lawyers and they adjudicate the law. If you are looking for organized crime in this country where the public is blatantly ripped off, just poke your head into the nearest courtroom.

This is sad! There are many concientious lawyers out there, lawyers who put their clients first but this type of thing give us all a bad name.
I hope that Ms. Stutzman attends the hearings, the fee hearings and continues to report on this matter.
Also, I would like to see her do a story on Lawyers who sacrifice for their clients.

How is this news? This is how it works, and this is why lawyers are the ones who push class action suits.
And who do you think pays when the company settles? You. The consumers and the shareholders. Companies pass along all these fees and penalties in the form of higher prices and lower returns. In the end, consumers pay MORE than if there were no suit.

What can I say. "Lawyers"? About the worst crop of people ever and the biggest crooks in the world. What was that joke? A yellow school bus full of lawyers at the bottom of the sea. They should donate "ALL" of the money to charity. CREEPS.

"But in their pleadings, they described the proposed settlement as "fair, reasonable and adequate" and said it had been worked out over months of "serious, informed, non-collusive negotiations." Sounds like alot of money for a few months of work. Classic!

Only thing the consumers get is 1) a charitable donation of over $3 million, 2) unearned profits coming out of the pocket of a corporation who was stealing from the public, ans 3) deterrent effect that will prevent future price fixing and make goods cheaper for everyone. Should class action lawsuits not be brought if the damages are huge in the aggregate but individually small? If not, corporations could just screw us a little each time (a dime each?) and get away with it since the individual amount would be too small.
You want to talk about numbers? Here you go: fees- 1.4 million. Plaintiffs- 130 million. Total earned per plaintiff represented-$0.01.

I'm with Perspective-Boy. Not sure about this cases, but without the class action vehicle, the corps would steal a nickle from each of us. We wouldn't care b/c it's so small. Multiply that nickle times a millions of consumers and the big corp makes out ..well,...big. Those griping about it, go ahead and ask the corp for you nickle back. See what they say. Then go ahead and sue them for you nickle. Have fun. Everytime one of those class actions shows up in the mail, I sign on. Better the I get my nickle and the lawyer makes money, and the bad guy doesn't get to KEEP the money.

But what if they steeel a dime from each of us, the lawyer settles for a nickle so he/she will get a fee. Isn't that lawyer also stealing a nickle?

You could send a letter to James Perry and ask him to reject the settlement unless the damages paid bear a reasonable proportion to the damages. Otherwise, class actions can be a form of legal extortion. Judge James Perry 301 N. Park Ave Sanford, Florida 32771
