That's what got Ford Motor Company into trouble decades ago. They froze executive pay in response to criticism of the disparity between management pay and worker pay. The workers went on to get huge contract pay raises while Ford lost its best execs and engineers to the Japanese manufacturers who put the best and brightest to good use developing products and marketing that propelled Japanese cars to the top of the industry.

Bovine Fecal Matter!!! The high quality production methods used by the Japanes to surpass the US auto makers was created in the USA. Detroit executives refused to adapt to a more quality concious buyer all by themselves. It had nothing to do with unions or executive pay and everything to do with arrogance and ignorance!

Toyota sent swarms of engineers to tour Ford manufacturing facilities in the 1950s and study assembly line methods. The Japanese asked lots of questions and Ford told them what they were doing right and what they wish they had done differently. Toyota designed their facilities the way Ford recommended.
The Japanese also utilized Professor Demming's quality analysis methods he had co-developed while quality control boss at American AT&T back in the 1930s. Professor Demming had been sent to Japan by the US government after WW II to help rebuild Japanese industry with the same goals as the Marshall Plan to rebuild war devastation in Europe.
Both Ford and GM hired Professor Demming in the 1980s to learn his quality analysis methods.
Ford has since moved on to 6 Sigma quality assurance and now Ford quality surpasses Toyota and other Japanese brands.

Another big step forward for Ford was to fire all minority suppliers that they has so foolishly contracted with for years. Under Bill Ford and Jaques Nasser, Ford had adopted a social conscience and took on minority suppliers as a way to spread the wealth to minority businesses. Low parts quality, poor cost controls, and poor on time delivery finally prompted Ford to copy the Japanese and purchase parts from the lowest cost, highest quality producers, regardless of source. This was a return to the old policies of Henry Ford himself. Disregard race and consider only product.

As I said before, Detroit rejected high quality production methods. It all had to do with arrogance, not unions or executive pay. Cutting and pasting will prove nothing. Educate youself before you make a fool of yourself.

The acidic NAFTA , free trade bills, the unbridled capitalism without governance, the unfair, non-transparent one-sided/lopesided trade laws ... and the Greed, Avarice, corruption etc.,can bring any nation to it's knees.

Readup on evil interrelationship of what COrporatism and Fascism can do to nation(s) and it's people.

I think Japanese improved on the US mangerial aspect of XY with XYZ of pratical management of the '80 and reason they surpassed the USA in efficiency management, but bad for the employees. Tell me if i wrong?

Remember Toyota was in the red , the japanese executive lied to public about its balance sheet but survived by earning meager profits ; more liking they used and improved on US management models, see above .

Ford and GM will never surpass foreign quality...... Five American automobiles with major repairs......no repairs on any Toyota ever purhased....just routine maintenance....
Ford and GM lost their quality/style vision long ago.....and even today their designs are still subpar.

Nah. I totally disagree.

The reason Ford, GM, Chrysler never gave a crap about quality is because they felt they had a captured market. When the Japanese came and showed the American consumer how cars should be built, the American buyer went the Japanese way. Hence, Toyota, Honda and others made a fortune selling to the American market. But, you must remember: The Americans are the ones that funded the Japanese equipment, so the Japanese could re-build Japan and start building cars. It was our money and our technology that helped that nation become what it has become. So, guess what? We are going back to our basics and we will recapture our market. Check what Ford is offering now (Models 2010 and on). GM is coming with cars that will send the Japanese and the Koreans back to the ocean ports with un-sold units. You can bet the farm on it.

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Libra

If you live with other people you have to resign yourself to the fact that you all want to do different things today. The more you urge togetherness, the more everyone will be determined under tonight's Full Moon to do their own thing even if it creates problems. Try to play this down as much as possible because it's also a lunar eclipse and getting angry won't solve anything; it may even make the situation worse. Maybe this is a chance for you to do what you want for a change, too? Anyway, enjoy yourself tonight, Libra because you deserve it!
