General Motors Corporation has shut down seven assembly plants, and has as many as 29 affected by the two-week old American Axel strike on the Detroit / Hamtramck border.
The sides are to negotiate today in an effort to resolve a dispute over reducing wages for workers at the company in an effort to make it more competitive with automobile parts suppliers which rely on outsourcing labor beyond America's borders to reduce costs to automobile manufacturers.

Judged: 4 2 i met plenty of your kind and have no problems with most workers ,, the point i was getting across was the fact your cost of living and standard is far below average ,,, i'm happy to here at age 36 0r 37 or you bought a home ,, i bought my first home at age 22 leaving the military ,, on number five now ,, its all relavant to where yu live ,, you must surely see that companies are taking advantage to lower wages in your area and really dont care about quality as long as the job gets done |

Judged: 4 3 1 but goods, and products aren't coming down on price, so if the middle class can't afford to consume who is left to buy the products we produce!?(The jerk presently in the White House doesn't recognize the middle class that is why he isn't doing anything to help the situation. His little tax rebate is a joke, it's not going to help that much with the economy, it's a little too late!! Doesn't he realize when workers take wage cuts that is less money for the government!? Loss in revenues for the states, also. When the middle class is bleeding the rest of the country suffers, thus one of the reasons we are headed for a recession, if we aren't already in one. Also the reason Michigan is a dying state!!All the rich in this country can't carry the burden of taxes on their own. The U.S. NEEDS the middle class!) At least,AAM didn't do the sneaky conniving thing that Delphi did to its workers, Delphi filed bankruptcy,(which they weren't in that bad of shape at the time, they were still investing in other ventures) so they could slash wages and benefits. We are just glad that GM agreed to take 5,000 seniored workers back and offer buyouts to those that wanted to leave(thank God for the UAW, if it weren't for the union all these people would have lost half their wages, benefits slashed, they would have lost everything they worked their entire lives for, if it weren't for the UAW they wouldn't have had a say at all, they would just have to accept what Delphi wanted to do.) My husband (who just had 27.5 years at the time of the bankruptcy) and I are still being affected by what Delphi did to us, we had to move from Michigan (where we both were raised) and yes, we still have our house there that hasn't sold and probably won't for a couple years. These companies don't give a rip about the workers and their lives.) |

Judged: 5 4 2 My advice: 1) If you think you’re skilled and valuable and your employer won’t pay you what you’re worth then grow a spine and go get another job, otherwise stop whining and be happy with what you have. 2) Regarding CEO compensation, guess what, Dick has a spine. I don’t think that he’s worth what he makes, but he was willing work hard, get an education, relocate to where work is and take a high-risk job where he can be fired at any moment. He has no super powers, you can all have his job if you’re willing to invest in school and work 14 hours a day 7 days a week. Again, step up or stop whining about him. 3) If you want to make the big bucks start a business. Only then will you really understand that when labor is too expensive the business goes belly-up and everyone from the janitor to the CEO loses their job. The AUW wants you to believe that you’re weak and need them. You’re not. You’re strong. Believe that, work harder than you ever have, take some risks and you can be one of the people that the weak and oppressed union workers whine about….. |
