I guess you dont realize that most of them cant even read and are drunk , making the parts for the cars that drive on the road with you and your children. When an axle blows on a car it allows the car to no longer have steering and if your Toyota is in the way of that car it wont matter. Real smart. So the mexicans PAY to work there? As for illiterate drunks- What is changing from UAW workers? Also steering has NOTHING to do with axles- on RWD axles drive the tires if an axle breaks then you stop moving, but can still steer. On FWD the axles transfer power to the front tires, steering is by way of a rack and pinion. If you work at AAM and don't know what you make, what does that say about you? Before you spout off, KNOW what you are talking about

Tim wrote: Lets think for a moment. If the UAW would have settled for cutting the wages of the employees in half (at Am. Axle, Delphi, GM, etc.), do you really believe that the price of a vehicle would decrease? Or, would the CEO's bonuses increase because of showing bigger profits? I'm going with the bigger bonuses! In this day and age of corporate greed and fraud (ENRON, Tyco, Adelphia), CEO's are the ones who are dragging these companies down! Alot of you people say that unskilled labor doesn't deserve the wages they earn. To a certain extent, that may be true. But do you believe that a CEO is worth $5Mil when the company is going under? Was the CEO of Home Depot worth $22Mil when stock prices were plummeting? Was Ken Lay, Gary Kozlowski, and John Rigas worth it? Look what happened to their companies, and they never complained about high priced employees. They buried their companies and the shareholders with their GREED!!!! Let's assume for a moment that a CEO receives $5Mil/year. Also, an employee at the high end of the scale makes $100K/year (which requires working a ton of overtime)including benefits. The company has to pay ONE CEO the same amount of money it costs them for 50 non-management positions. Now, keep in mind that the $100K I used as an example is on the extreme end of the payscale, that $5Mil would actually pay for more employees. To add insult to injury, multiply the $5Mil salary by the number of CEO's that company has (some of whom make more than $5Mil), and we see who is actually bleeding the company of its money. What exactly does a CEO do to warrant such a ridiculous salary!? Everyone here knows that a company can not function without the little guy at the bottom. The CEO is not the one building the axles, radiators or engines. The assemblers are. Why shouldn't the people doing the actual work be able to share in the companies profits? Unless they changed the setup of the board, a company has only ONE CEO. CEO=CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER. So by your logic, only 50 or so workers should get 100k per yr. The rest should get REAL wages more on par with the real world.

Josh wrote: The UAW did it to themselves. Greedy workers who think they deserve 25/hr for "unskilled" labor will get a quick reality check as the begin looking for new jobs. In the 20's and 30's, unions were a must. This day in age, there's no need for them in the U.S. Their high-wage demand will never work in our global manufacturing economy. You had better hope to God that america doesn't lose unions. You don't think the companies offered $25 per hour as wages do you? Union workers don't get anything unless the companies agree to it! Company owners are exploiting the current economic situation purely out of a desire to get more money for themselves (greed)by cutting the pay of the people who generate the actual profits for them. This won't stop unless unions get STRONGER!!

Please take the time to read, I wonder if all the employees at Am. Axle realize just how much their greed is affecting 37,000 other people over 30 different manufacturing companies??? Is it not better to take the proprosed buyouts, or buydowns at the current offered amount, and accept the pay cuts, then to have this strike go on ANY longer then it already has?$80,000 and $100,000 is more than ample buyouts and buydowns... to those who accept them is it not like winning the lottery??? You have your choice take the money and work for a lesser wage, or take the money and get a better paying job... it's an easy choice, why is everyone so greedy fighting for more of a lump sum for buyouts and buydowns up to $100,000 and $120,000??? They're already being extremely generous with their offer already in my eyes. There are 37,000 other families that are living on single incomes, or lower paying double incomes, and they are struggling to get by pay cheque to pay cheque to support their families, these 3 600 UAW workers of Am. Axle are taking food out of their children's mouths, clothes off their backs, and roof's from over their heads the longer this goes on. My question is, where the HELL is the humanity, mindset, and compassion for the 37,000 other families that this strike is affecting, does no one care????? Why is everyone so greedy, supposedly these workers have money saved up for strikes like this so they can survive, how about for once these workers look at the big picture??? The single mothers, and fathers raising children on single incomes from their jobs working at one of American Axles suppliers, the families that can no longer afford to make their mortgage payments, car payments, buy proper groceries, continue to buy diapers, or formula, all because of 3 600 greedy, self righteous, self endulgent employees. Let's take time to think of the bigger picture! I hope this strike ENDS this week, before too much proverty and depression affects these families of the 37 000 other North American families that need to work, and are more than willing to work, and put in extra over-time to be able to afford to buy that special prom dress for their daughter, or afford to buy their son some proper eye glasses, afford those diapers and cans of formula, help support their mothers and fathers, keep food on the table, and a roof over their families heads. Please feel free to share this letter with the American Axle employees, the UAW, and GM. in hopes that it may just open their eyes to the bigger picture, and end this strike, for everyone! Thank you.

If you don't, your job is gone. Union greed is causing the loss of jobs, no more overpaying for minimal skills. Unions are getting weaker, thank god. Once they're gone we'll all be better off!

I feel for you, but the union workers only care about themselves. It's always been like that. As long as they get their share, which is more than they deserve, they're happy. If not they act like it's practically a criminal act. Can't wait for the AAM jobs to go overseas, for those AA workers who are unprepared, as far as I'm concerned move to Mexico to keep your job or do without. Your union greed put you where you are today!

I made my millions years ago putting in 80 hour weeks as a skilled tradesman. I was smart enough to take the buyout and get out of there with my wealth and health. Good luck to you people. You all should have taken the trades tests and became a journeyman so you'd have a chance at decent wages when they close the plants. The writing has been on the wall, why did you not see it? Back in the 70's I remember being on layoff and having my unemployment run out. There was no "buyout" money or JOBS bank. We toughed it out, but now you have it too easy.
