I have been in the factory business for 16yrs. I have worked for both Union and Non-Union factories. I think it is just a shame that thousands and thousands of people are continuing to be laid off of their jobs due to the fact that 300 people feel that they are not making enough money. I make 14.00 an hour with benifits it comes out to be about 24.00. I am a single parent of four and am putting kids through college along with car payments house payments the whole nine yards. If you learn to manage your money on a limited amount of income you tend to not be greedy. As far as the CEO's getting big raises, my suggestion to you would be to get a degree. This greed that this Union and workers have started has an impact on alot more people than those standing out there on the picket line. Hey some money is better than none. What are they going to do when American Axel finds people to replace them or if not that decides to pack up and move to Mexico. Need to think about that as well. So how much are you really willing to lose?

I agree totally I also work in a shop and have been there since I was 18, last year the plant I worked in for 7 yrs closed and moved me to a different location. I had to take a paycut but a job is a job and now these greedy workers have laid off my fellow coworkers that happened to be on gm lines. why do a small amount of whiners make the rest of us suffer because they would be insulted to make more than we do. If its that bad I am sure there are people that are about to run out of unemployment soon who would trade with them. uaw go back to work so the rest of us can, SUCK IT UP

DELPHI wrote: I agree just suck it up, some people want to go back to work. I have not worked in 2 weeks, so any of you strikers want to pay my bills? Wow that is great -- big deal you havent worked in 2 weeks-- Who is asking you to take a 40-60% pay cut-- everyone acts like the unions are greedy meanwhile all ceos are walking away with MILLION dollar parachutes!! This country was built on the back of every man that had the balls to walk out of that plant on Saginaw St. in Flint, Mi and tell their boss to stick it -- Oh and they had families to feed also!! Everyone anymore are terrified that they will lose their job if they speak up!! Do I agree with how far out of control the UAW has gotten --NO. I do not know what the wage of the worker on that line is-- My mom, still works for GM @ flint metal fab-- she made $58000.00 last year. Dad worked for buick and retired 8 years ago with a pension that he worked for 32 years!! However the Corporations have gotten WAY out of hand!! I tell ya what you cannot raise a family off of $14 an hour--$26880 a year -- RU KIDDING ME!!!! If your rent or mortgage is $750 a month -- that is $9000 a yr.-- 30% of your income goes towards a place to live--$100 a week towards groceries--$4800 a year in groceries- So now 50% of your income is going towards food and a place to lay your head. I havent even mentioned car insurance, gas that is $3.29 a gal., electric, gas, cable, clothes, school lunches etc. Iam a optimist and very realistic-- You cannot raise a family off of that low of pay!! This is not 1980 or even 1990!!Its 2008 and every damn thing has went through the roof!! Unfortunately there will be many folks out there taking the sub-wage job and crossing the picket line. I PROUDLY SUPPORT THOSE FOLKS STRIKING!!! I believe that many others need not be resentful and stand up and take these large corporations to the mat -- toe-toe.

I wonder why people would that the so called "sub-pay job". Mabye because the unemployment rate is almost double what the national average is, around 7-8%. As far as being able to afford raising a family on $14.00 an hour, it can be done and is done by many people in this country already. Just because you were lucky to have two parents working in a booming automtive industry growing up, does not mean that is how it goes. Get rid of the UNION MENTALLITY! They received hundreds of applications from people wanting the work due to the overpricing of the UAW over the past 30 years. I was raised by a single parent, working two jobs for minimum wage, not because she wanted to, but because of her full time job leaving the area. It can be done for less and people are showing it by filling out the applications. I do not disagree that they needed to fight for what they have, BUT, now they are affecting other people who already make half of what they do and were doing just fine until this. Wake up, you have almost pushed your way into not having jobs, what then? You thought $14.00 an hour was bad, try finding a manufacturing job period in that area. Oh, and by the way, unemployment does eventually run out!

It doesn't matter to me what type of job you have right now, being asked by the company to take a 50% wage cut is NOT acceptable to me. Over the years these people have fought for the wage they are making and for the company to ask for this much of a pay cut is not only insulting and demeaning of what they think of their workers, but is also a slap in the face to every red blooded american trying to make a living for their family. This strike has now gone on long enough that the company I work for (a forging company) has been affected and we start laying off people this week. BUT, I support the strike because it is the right answer to an intolerable situation. GO UAW!!!!

I'm sorry to say but American Axle's workers aren't going to win. We are in a global work force now. I lived in the area when the steel mills went out in the 80's. I lived in the south after that when the textile mills and other associated businesses closed up. Michigan union works you have had it good for the past 20 years while other parts of the country have fallen apart. I live here in Michigan now and if I would have know it was like this 3 yrs ago I wouldn't have let my family move here. But our newspapers didn't have anything about how bad the auto industry was doing. Michigan has all these silences.(Secrets?) American Axle you aren't just hurting the big companies, your also hurting the little ones, that have had to lay off people since this started. You need to get serious. Soon. The union needs to discuss and agree what concessions they will take and get to the bargining table. You won't get what you want now. And there is no job security. There hasn't been since the 80's. Michigan just was living a dream and it's over now. I agree the big executives should be ashamed of themselves of the amount of greed they have. They shouldn't make the kinds of salaries that they are, if they would have been doing their jobs right the salaries and therefore the housing ect. for parts of Michigan wouldn't have gotten out of control.

Yea that is interesting-- they walk around wearing 2nd hand clothes or buying from wal-mart!! And not to mention credit card debt!! You think it is possible to live a healthy life off of $14 an hour-- you are kidding everyone!!DO THE MATH or would you like me to teach you more!!!
Just because you were lucky to have two parents working in a booming automtive industry growing up, does not mean that is how it goes. Never stated that I was lucky -- honestly I believe I was unlucky because both my folks worked 10-12 hrs a day 7 days a week mths at a time-- would I do that to my kids?? NO!!!
Get rid of the UNION MENTALLITY! Yea there ya go again-- sure I would love my employer to tell me to take a 50-60% pay cut - I will never even think about going to work with that type of employer, injure yourself at work and they will do what it takes to replace you!! Sick too bad you have been replaced!!
You can stick with your mentality and I will do just fine and be able to feed my family w/out working to make a corporation throw me out the window!!!
They received hundreds of applications from people wanting the work due to the overpricing of the UAW over the past 30 years. That overpricing was a NEGOTIATED WAGE AND BENEFIT!! When you belong to a union they negotiate your wage with the employer!! UAW never overpriced themselves it is negotiated with the American axle corp.(or GM, FORD Chrysler--etc.)And that my friend is the sad truth -- a corporation agreed to this wage package and now is getting more and more greedy off of the backs of the AMERICAN WORKER!!! HAVE THE BALLS AND STAND UP FOR WHAT IS FAIR FOR YOU!!!!
Oh, and by the way, unemployment does eventually run out! I do not work manufacturing, I make a decent wage, that has been negotiated for me, however I have 13 years of training, furthermore quality and safety is paramount!! Now hire someone at $14.00 an hour and tell me how much they really care about anything to do with their JOB-- because that is all it is, a JOB-- its not a career!! Take care and keep up with that "great union busting" philosophy-- oh And dont forget to vote republican we will all then be working for $4.00 an hour!!!! WAKE UP AND TAKE A STAND!!!!!!!
