nice job on the strike, you held out for 3 months, your employer lost $130M, GM your best customer lost millions, all of you lost money....and now 2000 are out of your 'union' job for good, probably just the start.....but, oyeah, you showed 'em that "the company ain't gunna jack us around for nuthin' nohow"......so keep singin' solidarity forever....minus 2000.
who knows how you got that bigtime paydown.......good luck finding that new job......."solidarity forever"

I agree with your comment but it makes me curious....GM states they lost millions, but how much did they save? They didn't need to pay shipping for materials they didn't need to purchase; they didn't pay utilities for products they didn't manufacture; they didn't pay wages to employees that didn't work. I wonder what the true bottom line was?

Dir it ever occur to you that those involved in cut backs may have the option to fill other vacancies in other facilities with all the retirements and buyouts?.

I am still annoyed that the focus was on pay and not education. Unions are two faced. They fight for worker pay but don't want their workers to get educated enough to get a more skilled job. They spend millions on political lobbying that actually hurts the economy too. I'm still waiting to hear about the top Union dogs taking cutbacks and lowering dues.

The unions are a joke. This just goes to show how little power they have. I would guess in another 10 years there won't be one UAW worker left in the US. It is a dying breed...

I agree with Tom's comment wholeheartedly.

Shipping costs and wages for those GM workers laid off?? Those items come out of a different line item on GM's budget that they don't talk about. Makes no sense to me!

Congratulations American Axle employees and Union. I hope you got what you wanted from your strike. When it comes to a company pleasing its employees, or pleasings its shareholders, it doesn't take rocket science to figure out its the investors the company will please, not the employees.

Did I read that right?$73.48 an hour? If this is true then surely there is something wrong with this country. Paying that much for factory work is unbelievable. No wonder they have to cut workers.

That was not the hourly pay rate. It was the cost of pay plus benefits.

American Axle most likely would have cut their work force anyway, as car sales are down. And then the workers, if they had accepted the huge pay cuts originally proposed by AAM would have been much worse off.

Just another example of why the unions need to go. When they first started they did a wonderful job protecting workers. That no longer happens. How really won here. Now if we could just get rid of the other big union in this state our children could see a difference.

As long as there are workers who keep paying them every month they will hang around. You are paying for nothing. That strike proved the union is taking your money and spending it on dinners with your employer. Nice going

Suprise suprise Don, that is also a part of their benifits if they so choose to use them, I know people that attended classes and rec. not only associates degrees but masters degrees for future use. Thats what cracks me up these people spurting off and don't even know what their contracts consists of, so where do they get off?.

I feel bad for anyone who has lost a good paying job union or otherwise. I had a great job for 10 years with a cellphone company. We got bought out by another company and POOF there went my job, my benefits, the vacation time I had accrued, and my salary. I didn't have a union job, but I still feel for these people. They have families to support and bills to pay. I hope all of you who are feeling so smug and laughing at what these people are going through never have to go through the pain of losing your job and benefits. I've never belonged to a union, but that doesn't keep me from feeling sorry for people who all of a sudden are unable to support their families, and who will probably take their families and taxpayer dollars out of MI.

Unions are for unions not employees. They stick it to the employees they "represent" and make life unbearable to the employers they destroy. They're great at getting the two sides to hate each other and are legitimized by a government to uninvolved to break organized ties. It forces great workers to be rewarded the same as poor ones, and encourages all to work at a level acceptable by the weakest link.
