He is being fair when he says he needs to close the Tonawanda and Cheektowaga, NY operations because they aren't competitive or fully utilized due to sagging volume. The moratorium on plant closings ended when the last contract expired, you can't have your cake and eat it too. The Detroit workers will suffer because the Buffalo plant is not operationally sustainable.

Doesn't matter who's mouth the union people take out of does it. Go back to work. Thank God you have a job. Thousand of unemployed people (on layoff because you walked out of your job) will thank you.

You are just reinforcing the "union" mentality that I am constantly referring too. Wrong again I don't work for Honda or Toyota. I am just your average "educated" American Auto Worker. It does amaze me that as soon as I have a battle of wits with "union" mentality the toilet mouth comes out in them.

Wow, some of the comments by ignorant UAW members make me ashame to claim that I am American. You see, it's not totally the Big 3's fault they are sucking, it's the UAWs fault: U=United A=Against W=Working Stop being so greedy!

Unions hurt everyone, give false hope, create a false sense of security that leads to workers giving less than their full potential, and cost way to much to be competitive. Be it the UAW the Teamsters or any other collective bargaining unit, the overhead that goes into fighting these organizations when lousy workers are ill-performing or something worse, is costing businesses and our country big. How long do you suppose you can dig into the cookie jar? Somehow unionized workers believe that being in a union means that workers can separate themselves from the responsibility of the success of the company, that they are somehow detached from the day to day hit the company takes. The unions are in business to make profit, not to protect anyone only to protect their interest. Unions are in the business of keeping themselves alive AT ANY COST, and therefore would say anything to its membership to conn them into believing they are there for them. The truth is, the UNIONS are screwing their own membership, and chasing jobs away. Wake up union workers, because businesses have started to!

Honda is expanding operations in the U.S. and will soon move Ridgeline production to Alabama from Canada. I'd rather work for an automaker who is investing and taking on more workers than the Detroit 2.5 who are trying to "buyout" ALL of their workers. Have fun working for $14/hr under the new regime.

The fact that my truck is non-union explains why I haven't had any issues with it. UAW shops have about 200 job classifications: screw assembler grade 1, bolt torque technician grade 3, journeyman adhesive applicator, technical assembler, non-technical assembler, assembler, junior assembler, advanced lugnut torque technician, pneumatic specialist (puts air in tires).....the list just goes on.

Honestly, working at Honda and working at GM is not very different from the aspect of work. HOWEVER, it's the aspect of the workers that make the BIGGEST difference! Honda tends to hire from within, giving ALL their workers a change to excel! GM gives their line workers no respect.
When I was at GM doing maintenance supervision, it was sad to see the best workers get more work because the lazy workers were protected by the UAW! After awhile, I don't blame the good workers for not wanting to do anything either! The survival of the Big 3 all depends on the UAW.... LOL... I feel sorry for them!

They are forced by the Goverment, other wise all these dink cars would all be made by chop stix..Toyota and Honda still import more than they build and all the Hybrids are made in Japan. So keep thinking that Japan is doing so much for the United States..

The American people are not going to tolerate supporting your healthcare and high wages for a marginal (i.e. barely acceptable) product, be it cars, electronics, etc... When the unions were at their best, they brought you slackers in line, and truly represented the membership. But they now have your healthcare cash (game over), so try not to let your blood pressure problem get out of hand,(sounds like your atherosclerosis is getting worse). You will be paying higher deductibles with less coverage. You should file a grievance (sorry for using all the big words)
