Gee. After making the switch, the only benefit I can see is that my walk is a little lighter since I don't have any of that cash in my wallet anymore.
It's slow -- slower than the 486 I owned in 1991 It crashes more than any PC I've ever owned The software sucks The networking is pathetic The damn thing heats up like the engine block of a '47 Ford after 2 hours of work Latches don't catch Bluetooth disconnects and reconnects arbitrarily
Of course, for $3,500, what do you expect? I personally expect three rock-solid PCs that provide dependable service.
If you're contemplating switching, wait until they get the bugs worked out of these lemons at least. Or better yet, buy a Dell, use it for a year, then buy another and use it for a year, and piss away the extra $1500 on yourself.

I've worked with thousands of Apple equipment in my job, including the latest Intel hardware, and I've never seen a list of problems as long as you describe on a single computer occur before. Why don't you vent at the Apple vendor? You do know you have AppleCare, don't you?

I back up the OP. My girlfriend has one - bought it for the looks, and she doesn't like it one bit. It's not the hardware, but OS X, that's giving her headaches. It's meant to be easy for non-technical users, but she has a butt-load of troubles.

I've been using macs for years...... wouldn't own a PC.... To the gentleman with a crashing mac I would suggest one thing....besides an education... buy ram....... if there is a problem with a mac is OS X is a big piece of software..... it needs ram.... don't even boot the thing with less then a gig....... the other thing that switchers run into that cause what you're saying is close programs that you aren't using..... macs are designed that way.... so if you don't have the ram for it..... you need to close programs you're not using..... but you don't know how.... any piece of high tech equipment, be it your cell phone, your HDTV, your surround sound..... you have to learn what it does, read the book...... because your mac is fine..except you need ram.... you have an operator problem..... same to the girlfriend with a learning disabilty....

The only time I've ever had problems was right before I sold my PowerBook. The hard drive died, but I replaced it myself and sold it. Otherwise I have no reason to complain. I used windows for over 20 years before I found out what I was missing. Now I won't go back for anything.

Apple computers are aimed at people who are not tech-savvy. A person who has even moderate technical knowledge of how computers work is better off with a PC.

Tech Savvy? What an absurd statement.....Apples have their biggest following from professionals........ always have....... the rest of the world is finally catching on...... Driving a crappy car is better for mechanics....... if your not a moderate mechanic you're better off with a fine automobile...... If you must run windows.....turns out Mac's run window's better then PC's.... so what reason is there to buy a PC now?...... there is a mac at every price point........

You dumbass. You clearly don't know anything about OS X. I've personally seen the latest (at that time, 10.4.10) booting on an old PowerPC G3 (~400 mhz) with 256 MB WITH NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. IN FACT, IT WAS BEING USED AS A BACKUP SERVER.

.......... Mac spends too much on the production of their cracked out computers. You can build a PC that is the same thing for the same price. Also, I don't think I've ever seen a pc with a stuck period button.

Dude... Jim... You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. Apple has their biggest following from professionals? That's just wrong. You know who buys Apple? Teenagers. "Professionals" use Linux because they need a stable, secure, powerful, fast, operating system. Pretty much everything that OS X isn't, really. OS X isn't fast, it isn't any more stable than Windows, it isn't more powerful, and it isn't more secure. And it costs twice as much. At least twice as much. The only non-teenagers who use OS X are some photographers and amateur videographers. Sorry dude, but you're just wrong. Also, RAM doesn't solve everything. Do you even know what RAM is? I bet not. "Oh, it's that stick you put in the case." Yeah... You just sit in your own little misinformed world and keep buying Apple's clever little "switch" ads. One more thing: I recently built a gaming PC for about $1,000 (not including monitor and keyboard and mouse). It has an 8800GT, 2.8 GHz duel core CPU, 2GB RAM... I went on Apples site and looked at the best Mac they make. It paled in comparison to my PC and cost three times as much. Why would anyone buy that? Because Apple markets it well that's why. My PC can play any game out there on full settings (and yes, I've tried them). So... Sorry, but your just wrong. Wrong wrong wrong wrong. Use Linux! Screw Apple.

@Jester Well said man, lol to be honest I only paid 726$ for my Acer 5520 laptop (on sale of course), its got a AMD Turion 2.0ghz duel core processor, 4 gigs of DDR2 667mhz high speed ram, lol a Geforce 7000m (256mb dedicated, 752mb turbocache), of all things running vista ultimate, 250gig HDD, all for a nice low price, and funny thing, it runs F.E.A.R 1 and 2 on high settings, UT3, everything i got, lol pretty good for an acer. To be honest i was gonna buy a mac...till i saw that for the price range i had it only have a "AMAZING" 80 gig harddrive, wtf am i supposed to do with 80 gigs i'm already at 146gigs out of my 250 lol. Not a big fan of mac, rather not blow my bank account on something like that.

I have been using a Mac for the last 2 years. A few months after I bought it I had to replace the keyboard because my arrow keys were stuck. Just recently I had my first kernel panic, and lost everything I was working on for school. I have problems with my airport going out on me from time to time. I recently built a linux desktop with a duo core AMD processor 2.1 ghz, 2 gigs of RAM, 320 gig HD, Geforce 7025 for about $400. I have not used my mac much since. Gave it to my wife. I don't think I will ever buy another one. I simply can't justify paying that much for a computer that costs well over a $1000 bucks and has a crappy keyboard and kernel panics. In addition to paying for the computer you have to buy all the software to go with it! With Linux you can install the OS on every computer you own for the cost of one CD-R. Ubuntu will even send you a real copy of their newest OS for free, and they will pay the shipping. Does anyone have anything against free? In addition to the free OS did I mention that all the software you could ever want is free too. I have to agree with Jester. Go Linux! But if you don't agree go ahead and blow you bank account on a new Mac and all the software. I'll just keep using my Linux box and all the software for free.

It's always funny to watch the mac/nonmac people go at it. Apple could build a machine that catches on fire whe you open it, and just so long as it comes with a pretty apple on it and only in black and white (for now, since you know, colors are so hard to make) the Cult of Mac followers would applaud it and stand in line in a lightning storm to get it. Conversely, they could build one that bakes you cookies and does your taxes while walking the dog and PC people would hate it mroe than stepping in dog crap. The fact remains...the prices do not match the quality of what you're getting. Take the MacBook Air.$1799 for 1.6Ghz...$3,000 for 1.8Ghz. Doesn't that bother anyone? Especially considering the HP I'm on is 3.4Ghz and was only $2,000. Still...it IS really thin.:-)

Macs are still overpriced. There look pretty but what the hell is with their price. And please, your a noob if you buy from dell, their just as bad. If your going to buy from a commercial manufacturer get an ASUS, ACER, LENOVO, TOSHIBA, FUJITSU, HP. For the Higher end ones, that you could customize. I'd recommend Vigor, IBUYPOWER, Cyberpower. Or just build your own. AND USE LINUX, its not that hard, dont be scared to use linux. Dual boot to xp for gaming. Easy.

Hm I'm glad I read this I was close to thinking I should get a Mac now I've seen the truth. You know I was thinking to myself that was a little overpriced...But what's this about getting Linux? You know I hear people hating Vista but I'm not exactly sure what's wrong with it besides security. Can someone explain that please?

I agree macs are still very overpriced, it is pretty absurd at this point. I grew up using both macs and PC's and had friends who swore by linux. Right now i have an Asus laptop, custom outdated PC that I built years ago, a new Imac and a new Power Mac, old macbook pro and a Lenova thinkpad all on my network. Switching from WinXP to Vista to Leopard to 10.4 to os9 on a daily basis I can say I am not a fanboy of either mac or pc's. I personally have had few problems with vista and don't know why everyone is complaining. Ok so vista uses a lot of Ram, this is a GOOD thing for growth in the future, RAM is fast! As for the new MAC OS I am not impressed with them, however I am not disappointed either. Macs still work well for initial user friendliness but other than that factor and video/graphic editing (wich I think is relatively on par with pcs now) I see no reason for me personally to dish out an extra thousand bux on something inferior HARDWARE wise then a PC equavilant. Heres to wishing I would of picked up linux sooner :/

So there people, buy more RAM to solve OS X problems. Nothing to do with OS architecture and memory management, just not enough damn RAM! Who would have thought!
