I'm suprised it hasn't gotten any attention yet. I guess everyone forgot about this case because it's been delayed almost 2 years.

This is strange. NOM doesn't believe in religious freedom. They seek ti impose a religious orthodoxy upon the United States.

It's also one of those committees where you stick annoying yammerheads so they can feel that they are powerful.

It's better than being named "production superintendent" on a movie set, but not by much. It also serves to mollify those who can be mollified by the existence of such a commission, bnecause it can be used to divert noisy busies away from Congressional outer offices, and give the complainers somebody to yammer at. It is also useful as a Foreign Affairs and Domestic Affairs sockpuppet.

Oh. I forgot.

Commissioners are Federal Employees and, as such, receive Federal protection ... and cannot engage in public voter politics.

$742,000

That's how much Speaker of the House John Boehner has spent to defend the discriminatory so-called Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA).

Meanwhile, Chief Warrant Officer Charlie Morgan of the New Hampshire National Guard - who visited Washington D.C. last month to make a plea that Speaker Boehner drop his defense - is fighting for her life as she battles incurable stage IV breast cancer. Should she not win that fight, her wife Karen, a stay at home Mom who cares for their 5-year-old daughter, will not receive the same benefits that would be granted if she were a spouse of the opposite gender.

But CW2 Morgan and Karen are just two of the plaintiffs in SLDN's landmark litigation on behalf of married gay and lesbian service members and veterans who are challenging DOMA and other federal statutes that prevent the armed forces from providing the same recognition, support, and benefits to all military families - items like health care, housing, and yes, survivor benefits. Indeed, there are thousands of service members being treated unfairly and unequally by these unjust laws.

The Speaker has a special fund paid for by taxpayers to hire expensive lawyers to defend DOMA in court, but we don't. We are depending on our own in-house legal team and Chadbourne & Parke, an outside law firm working with us and our clients on a pro bono basis to push back on the Speaker and his costly band of lawyers.

So let me get this right... The GOP seems to be coming around to gay rights/marriage here in the USA, according to a recent article posting, yet they're sticking staunchly anti-gay people on international panels regarding religious freedom?

Well that makes sense. Let's lay off being staunchly homophobic on our home turf but make sure internationally homophobia can grow so when we start the war on our home turf again we'll have more weapons and knowledge on how to win.

Sorry, but there's something going on with The Family and their 'started in Uganda' plan and this just seems to be one more piece to it.

As the Sun cruises into chatty Gemini, you are likely to get involved in a spirited discussion in which you can explain your beliefs and values to other people. Not only will this help you to clarify what you think, it will also give others a useful insight into what really matters to you. On a more mundane note, this is a good day to return something faulty to a shop because you'll be able to put your case well.
