US agency: AMR will seek to end worker pensions

I'm just amazed American didn't stop paying into the retirement plan the first day they filed Chap 11.

The PBGC says that according to its preliminary estimates, it would be liable for a total of about $17 billion in benefits.

Taxpayers are on the hook for 17 billion dollars of pension guarantee benefits. Those expecting pensions in retirement would only get less than 50% of their expectations and contributions.
