"Albertsons has notified the state that it will be closing its store at 1901 Military Trail, in West Palm Beach, and laying off 87 employees.
The company also plans to close stores in Ocala, where 107 people will be let go; Tallahassee, where 110 employees will be laid off; and Orlando, where 77 employees will lose their jobs, according to state records. In its letter to the state, the company said it will close the stores effective Feb. 26 and that there would be "limited transfer opportunities" for those employees impacted. In June, Lakeland-based Publix Super Markets agreed to buy more than half of the Albertsons stores in Florida. It is not known if the two locations impacted by the layoffs are included in that purchase. Publix has said it would be holding job fairs and interviewing the estimated 5,000 Albertsonds workers whose jobs are being eliminated." |

Um... No these stores have just been announced as closing, no buyer was mentioned. They are looking at all the stores that are supposedly underperforming (less than $250k a week). Which will probably be a number of them, not the store I'm in though. How a store that is taking in lets say $800k a month is not making the profit they want, even after the lease on the building, labor, electricity, phones, merchandise, suppliers. I haven't seen the P&L for these stores, but I'm sure they are still profitable. What they need to do is cut the fat at the top, no executive perks, no million dollar bonuses, etc. Continue to negotiate with suppliers for better costs, buy in bulk. Stop wasteful spending of store labor dollars by saying execs are coming to visit your store and not showing up yet the store spent extra labor, even overtime to get ready for a visit, etc. If they want to visit a store fine, just don't announce it ahead of time. Bottom line invest the money back in to the company, grow the business.
All in all this stinks for all those affected. |

Exactly right..Come on we all know that the P & L of every store has 2 bottom lines. One goal is what the store makes (hopefully) and then if we make over and beyond this first goal then we make our bonuses . I agree with you that most stores are profitable but they are not making the over and beyond amount. If all were really in that bad of shape all stores would have been closed by now.

Just returned to Napeles for the winter and found As a consumer I want to know why the Federal Trade Commission allowed this sale to go through to Publix where there are no other competing stores?
Albertson's in Pelican Bay closed with the existing Publix across the street still open. Buy your competition, shut it down, and raise your prices. With Publix the one remaining supermarket, the store is mobbed and checkout lines backed up all with increased prices now that they closed Albertsons. |

petition overview | letter Publix Supermarket Target: Publix Sponsored by: Nana Publix Supermarket is not pro consumer. They expect us to shop there but their prices are higher than every other store around. When contacted about doubling coupons here in the Englewood Florida area store they responded with an email. They stated they had no competition and didn't need to. They took the same stand when asked about their advertising scheme that states they take competitor coupons. They claim Target Store is NOT a competitor. but there are signs on the registers that they take Sweet Bay's coupons. Sweet Bay doesn't have coupons on line to print like Target does so how stupid is Publix? Or better yet how stupid do they think the consumers are? I have written to several chains to ask them to come to our area and help the consumers out. All the stores have responded positively, hopefully they will lighten our load.
