I feel that California needs to go on strike;after working for Albertson's for 18 years and then transferring to another state where I have to now pay for insurance and a pay-cut. I feel California is very much over paid I know this, because I got the $18.00 an hour; which now I only get $15.00 an hour for a hire up postion. I was a part of the 2003 strike it was very ugly..;however, I feel the two tear wage was an excellent choice. There are so many Dept.managers that are worthless and have no clue on what hard work is about; it's almost as if they forgot there job duties over the years..I am now non-union employee after 18 years and I absoulutly love it.I feel now that I am a true Albertsons employee, and no one person is going to be paid but me for having my job....

Do us Union workers a favor and do not move back to CA. It is attitudes like yours which bring down what the Union stands for. After 18 years you would think someone might have learned that!!! Albertsons was a good company but things do change. Are you a Republican? Good luck.

I don't work for Albertson anymore but I am a member of another Union. A Union is good but only if the right people are representing its members. I thought that the strike in 2003 was wrong. It bankrupted its employees and the Albertson's corporation.

Work Union, if you want to slack off. If you work hard, you don't need a union. Stand up for yourself and get paid what you are worth. Why should the next guy get your rate of pay even though you work harder? Why do people think that it feels good to "top out"? What if you were worth more? And the Union says you are not. Then what?

I guess you're right. In truth is, I hate the Union. When I was working for Albertson back in the day, I had problems with the old boss so I went to the Union. They did not do anything to help me.

The Southern Californian grocery workers have an inflated since of worth concering their pay and abilities. They stock shelves, put items into bags, use registers to add up the total you owe and clean up aisle 4 when something breaks. Think of how many other jobs do the same thing and what they are paid. People at McDonalds, Payless Shoes, and gas stations stock items, put them into bags, use registers and clean up messes too. If you live outside your means and have everything on credit then shape up and don't look for a bail out. You don't like your pay, then get an education and show that you're worth more. There are so many people in Southern California not only working harder, but making less. This potential strike is a slap in the face to anyone that pulled themselves up into a better life on their own or worked hard to get where they are at. If you want more money, get a degree and apply yourself. Then you may get what you think you are worth.

People rely to much on the security of their lives never changing. I feel sorry that someone that is over 25 is still ringing up and bagging groceries for chump change to barely pay their bills...but fact of the matter is it is up to YOU to further yourself. If a job does not pay what you need/want QUIT and find a better paying job, OR take a cut in pay by working a few less hours and using those hours to start getting an education. There is opertunity everywhere, night jobs, morning shifts, etc. Save up and make a schedual that works for you instead of complaining that others won't cough up more to support your life style. I work for a grocery store and am non-union. I bust my ass an infinite amount of times more than anyone inside the store and because of this I KNOW my worth, I am not paid enough, but that is why I work OT and search out better jobs and positions instead of wining I'm not paid enough.

I hate to see bright young people get into grocery clerk positions. What a waste of talent (if they had any) to toil in a grocery market with the only upside being shielded by a union and occasionaly checking out a hot body buying food. People stay in these positions for tens of years and call it a career. Checking groceries is not a career people... and if America is to succeed, strive to become something more tech orientated, please. Stike if you must, but in ten to twenty years their will not be "checkers" and very few of you to strike as your positions are eliminated by scanners and your wages that are saved, hopefully are passed on to the consumer.
PS, it is insulting when your union points out the wages of ceo's. Your union is hardly the the gatekeeper to fairness. At least the ceo's do something and not live off "dues".

While I feel sorry for your pay cut, it`s cheaper to live in Oregon. The wages reflect the cost of living from state to state. No one in California, or New York, or any other major state could live on the same wages. And I don`t just mean what Alberstons pays, but any job.

I have worked for kroger 14 years. I have asked alot of questions concerning our union. I have come to the conclusion that it is worthless. If you are a good worker you do not need a union to back you up. Most of those who are supportive of this union are lazy!!!! Get a grip, get to work and live the American dream. If you are going to constanly complain get another job!!

Here is what the Kroger union has done for me 1)I've worked for over a 1yr and 6months and have recived one raise 2)Myself and five other employes were basically scared to work with a fellow employee due to the fact that he would curse us out like usual but what happend to him nothing he did'nt get probation, suspended, or fired nothing Think this over look at what the union pays and then go look at what the non union pays!!!!

If you were supposed to get a raise every six months the first year, you need to contact the union and report that you haven't received it. 2)Did you or the 5 other employees report this bully to management or the union? If they are management or management does nothing about it, you need to contact your union rep and report it. Also, most employers have a hotline to report abuse, and you can remain anonymous. YOU have to take action in order for the union help you. After all, this is what you're paying those dues for.

Unions are a way for the lazy, non productive losers of the world to keep a job! Why do you think so many unionized companies go under every year? Free market works the best! Unions were great back in the days of sweat shops and child labor abuses of the 1800's and turn of the century, but have NO place in the modern workplace!Quit your whining!work harder and you can go farther and make more money! If not, find a company that rewards those who seek to achieve!
