College vending machine dispenses "morning after" pill

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.-- Students at a Pennsylvania university can obtain the "morning-after" pill from an unusual source - a vending machine at the campus health center.

The vending machine at Shippensburg University's Etter Health Center provides the Plan B emergency contraceptive along with condoms, decongestants and pregnancy tests.

Vice President for Student Affairs Roger Serr says the machine was installed after a request from the student association and a survey found 85 percent of student respondents supported it.

Plan B is available without a prescription to anyone 17 or older.

The drug isn't covered or subsidized by the school. Instead it is supplied for $25, the school's cost to the pharmaceutical company and less than at off-campus pharmacies.

Shippensburg is a school of about 8,300 students about 125 miles west of Philadelphia.

The lawyers are lining up for cases where hemorrhage or other medical emergency results. They'll sue the pharma company, the FDA, the vending company, the college...everyone. That'll put an end to it in a hurry.

That was my second thought. How can this be sold without a script or being dispensed via medical professional?

Condoms have evolved over the years and they are as good as bareback and keeps everybody safe!

MVI? I'm not a medical person.

I have no problem keeping it legal. But I also have no problems with restricting access, particularly to minors.

Hey. I'm not looney. I'm all for keeping it legal. But don't you see a contradiction in 14 YOs able to go and get an abortion without parental consent but can't get a script for penicillin without parental consent?
