I'm all for that. But, since carrying a concealed weapon is legal in Ohio, I think it's safe to assume that people are walking around with guns a lot of places where it wouldn't seem acceptable to most of us (e.g., a playground).
Concealed permit holders go thru police background checks in any jurisidiction they've lived in since they were 18, plus a fingerprint check. And their car's license plates are entered in a police data base.

Concealed permit holders are more law abiding than the general public

What bothers me is that they didnt get the bullet taken out because she wanted to go home. If it was me, I would of gotten the bullet taken out ASAP. Especially in the chest. Plus you never know something could happen and you can get lead poisoning. Better safe than sorry.

I am glad that the young girl is okay and yes, GOD did save her. There was nothing wrong with the doctor's statement. That is the problem today people are leaning away from religion. This is why the world is becoming the way it is. It speaks of this in the bible, whats going on today.

Please cite some data to back up your assertion that CCW permit holders break fewer laws than those who do not have a desire to carry guns. In Texas, licensees had been arrested for nearly two crimes a day through 1998 - with more than one arrest each month for a violent crime. while these crimes were not related to their firearms, necessarily, those with CCW permits were far more likely to be arrested than other citizens.

Yet another excellent reason to (a) repeal conceal & carry, so the cops are freed to bust anyone they see -- or reasonably suspect of -- packing; and (2) stay the hell away from Red, White & Boom. There are plenty of decent community fireworks displays over the 4th of July holiday, none of which attract the kind of criminally stupid, inbred morons who discharge firearms into the air. I just hope they catch the cretin who did this and make sure he does time, makes financial restitution to his innocent victim, and can never own another weapon. Of any kind. Ever. This is one area where justice demands: "One strike, and you're out."

kenminusbarbie- The current conceal & carry law does not prevent police from questioning ANYONE whom they see or reasonably suspect of "packing" whether you have a permit or not. You just better have your permit in hand when they ask for it. In fact as per the Ohio C&C law, if you are stopped by police, you are required to disclose that you are carrying concealed.

Also just because the decent community fireworks don't "attract criminally stupid, inbred morons who fire into the air" as you say, it doesn't mean there isn't law abiding citizens carrying concealed weapons. It could be your next door neighbor that's carrying and will never tell you.

this is sad. I am glad I don't go downtown to watch these fireworks. I be afraid to even go now. They should have a rule now that no one is aloud to bring a gun to the fireworks. 1 - because you don't know if this will happen again and 2 - you don't know if someone is accually going to use it as a weapon to kill someone like a plan. This is dangerous and this is wrong for them to allow people to brings guns to this event every year. I thank God that He watched this girl and let her live for a reason.
Lets blame the object and not the person that pulled the trigger. Someone that carries a gun does not always want to kill someone. Who knows maybe they are trying to protect them from other that might want to rob or mug them. Not everyone that carries a gun is a criminal. You don't ban beer and liquor if someone gets drunk and kills someone while driving. You punish the person that did the action and not the object.

Did you miss the part in the story when they said it could have came from over a mile away? As far as bringing a gun to a playground. You ever thought of a crazy person opening fire on a playground full of kids and a Law Abiding CCW holder shooting the bad guy? Why do you think they get a conseal carry in the first place? To shoot it in the air at fireworks? No, it's to protect them selves from the idiot that is doing stupid stuff such as that!!! Consealed carry has NOTHING to do with this incident. Next thing ill probably hear that its inappropriate to bring consealed weapons to class @ college.(IE Virginia Tech).

The same thing happened to a friend of mine a few years ago at Red, White & Boom. Maybe the police should look into this instead of trying to catch people setting off bottle rockets or sitting on 71 catching speeders.

Just one more reason not to attend the Redneck hillbilly mecca better known as Red, White, & Boom. Or as it is more commonly known... Rednecks, White trash & Booze.

Glad the girl is going to be OK. Frightening story to say the least.

As am I. This is a criminal problem. Not a regular citizen with a CCW permit problem. My heart goes out to Jasmine and her family. I'm thankfull she is ok. Unfortunatly, there is danger in all that we do. Just going outside presents risk. This is a perfect example. Bad people are going to do bad things. Dumb people are going to do dumb things. Criminals are going to continue to break the law, as long as there are laws to be broken.

How can the police attempt to trace the bullet's flight path. They don't know the angle at which it was fired, effects of wind, etc. I think they'll just drive around some bad areas of town and hope for the best.

By the way, crack down on the thug life wannabes, not the law abiding gun owner who likes to target shoot, hunt or have a CCW permit for personal protection.

Idiots firing live rounds into the air. I like to make a bit of noise on the 4th as well, and it's real easy to buy blanks for a gun. But hey, they're just not 'gangsta' enough for the thugs who are playing this dangerous game.

Ah, spoken like a true upper middle class suburban white liberal, who would be frothing at the mouth with self-righteous moral fury if he heard anyone using similar terms to describe non-white lower class people but has no problem using the same type of language to denigrate white people who make less money than he does. But then what do i know, maybe he hates blacks and Latinos just as much as "redneck hillbillies" but he's just careful to keep his mouth shut about them.

Angry Young American,

You chose an accurate name to appear on your posts. I would add - Angry & "Ignorant" Young American.

How do you know that I am White, Middle Class, Suburban, and Liberal? You have no clue do you? You reached into your own bag of stereotypes to pull-together those descriptions of me. Who's being morally self-righteous here? And by the way, you went 1-for-4 in your summary of stereotypes. Feel stupid? You should.

I would actually welcome an audience of rednecks and white trash if the alternative was spending 5 minutes with you, ok?

And hey, if you want to throw in people of color into the mix, why don't use this forum to do it? Ahhh, but it's way to convenient to pin others in the corner. You're a cliche.
