That bullet is probably one of many that are fired by the idiots that live in the mobile home parks off of Harmon Ave. I have lived in this area for over 20 years and the same thing happens every July 4 and the first of the Year. I hear every type of gun fire imaginable, pistols, shotguns and of course submachineguns of all kinds. I sit outside and hope to see a police cruiser driving by but I have yet to see one in all these years. This gunfire goes on long after the fireworks are over so the police if they wanted to do anything about it would have plenty of time to investigate but since this is not upper arlington, grandview or westerville they really don't care.

The family should contact the attorney general crime victim services department and fill out an application for assistance in paying uninsured medical bills associated with this crime of violence. They will not pay for expenses in advance, but if an adult responsible for her medical bills qualifes, the adult can be reimbursed up to $50,000 for medical expenses not covered by insurance or charity. There are also local agencies that can help file these forms - justice league of ohio.

>"A doctor told her,'You need to go to church on Sunday.'"< I hope the girl is christian and the doctor knew this from the hospital intake form. Otherwise, this was an extremely inappropriate comment and the doctor should be disciplined. Anyway, I'm glad she wasn't more seriously injured and I hope her wound heals quickly and completely.

this is sad. I am glad I don't go downtown to watch these fireworks. I be afraid to even go now. They should have a rule now that no one is aloud to bring a gun to the fireworks. 1 - because you don't know if this will happen again and 2 - you don't know if someone is accually going to use it as a weapon to kill someone like a plan. This is dangerous and this is wrong for them to allow people to brings guns to this event every year. I thank God that He watched this girl and let her live for a reason.

He was right about what he said. He means she should go so she can thank God for saving her life. She could of died. Also she can learn the truth about God. You are such an idiot, you should go to church yourself and learn.

Yes, go to church and surround yourself with hypocrites like former director of Gov. Ted Strickland's Faith-Based and Community Initiative, who pleaded guilty to two felony counts after police said he put nude photographs of the girl on a Web site to promote prostitution. There is no god. Stop deluding yourself.

He probably beats baby deer to death with his bible!!!!

I love that Julie called another poster on here an "idiot" because s/he doesn't agree with her "god delusion." Very "Christian" of you Julie and very telling.... Regardless, your god(s) had nothing to do with "saving her life." It was random chance that she was hit, and random chance that it didn't hit her in an way that caused further danger to her life.

But, since carrying a concealed weapon is legal in Ohio, I think it's safe to assume that people are walking around with guns a lot of places where it wouldn't seem acceptable to most of us (e.g., a playground).

I saw a man with a handgun sitting beside him at Red, White and Boom back in the mid to late 80's, which made me think about why someone would feel unsafe at this event....I never attended again and have encouraged my children to not attend this event as there are no fireworks worth risking your life for..........

You want to talk about God in one sentence and then call someone an idiot. You are a hypocrite!! If people like you go to heaven, maybe hell is not such a bad place after all!

Thankfully, what you feel appropriate is irrealevant under the concealed carry laws. Law abiding citizens that legally carry concealed are not the ones discharging firearms into the air. Concealed carry permit holders undergo an extensive background check, fingerprinting, and a training class before ever carrying a firearm. What is is unacceptable, is that courts refuse to punish criminals who use firearms. It isnt the gun that causes the problem, it's the hood rat holding it.

Julie I missed the part where they said the girl was shot by someone with a gun at Red, White, & Boom...the way I read it, it sounds like it was someone in Franklinton...besides how would the police stop people from bringing guns to the display? Did you see the crowd? This isn't the airport. The fact is that their are a lot of idiots out there with guns who don't follow proper safety procedures when discharging their weapons...its a fact of life that we just have to deal with as there is no solution to eliminate this because it is human nature to act like a complete idiot at times. The only hope is that next time the idiot shoots it perfectly straight up, sits down with his drink of choice, and wakes up dead...people don't deserve to be shot by idiots!

There was a CSI episode similar to this a few years ago. Some jerk doing target practice in his backyard fired into the air to shut up his complaining neighbor, killing a woman several blocks away. People need to remember that what goes up must come down.
I'm glad this girl is OK. I hope she doesn't have lasting problems from this.

Outlawing guns would be just as futile as outlawing idiots but at least by outlawing idiots some acumulated good may come of the folly. Anyone playing russian roulette with American children on the 4th of July should spend the rest of their life in a russian gulag.

Oh, gosh, if someone goes through the permit processing OF COURSE s/he isn't going to do anything stupid! If an individual is willing to complete paperwork and show up for a class, that person OBVIOUSLY is immune from poor decision-making.
