If you read what Obama said and can't understand why many Americans took offense to that then you must have some type of mental defect. Let me put it to you like this;
I know several private practice physicians who built their business's from the ground up. They got loans from banks. Not the types of loans that something with a 520 credit score gets to buy a home they couldn't afford. We are talking doctors with 800+ credit scores. They spent 80 hours or more working on their business's each week. They took all losses when they chose ineffective advertising. When they had slow times. The government did nothing to assist them and would do nothing to keep them in business. In fact the healthcare law is in fact harming their business because they can't compete with hospitals that have dozens more doctors and a billing department and can take lower insurance reimbursement rates. The reason people like this take Obama's remark as insulting is he is completely belittling anything they have done. He's taking credit for their hard work and sacrifice. Roads and bridges huh? Yeah trust me these folks have more than payed their fare share to drive on king Obama's roads and bridges through high taxes.
He basically gave a middle finger to anyone in this country who has ever put the hard work and sacrifice in to be successful by saying they did little to make it happen, the government made it happen. It's the biggest load of crap I've ever heard. It's about as communist in slant as you can get.
Excellent post. I agree completely. If not for the taxes that businesses paid would the roads have been built?

If one takes credit for the success of a business will they also take credit for businesses that fail. Did the roads, the teacher, the help along the way contribute to the failure?

Who invented the use of asphalt on the roads, who designed and manufactured the machinery used? What teacher encouraged you to start a business and risk all your worldly goods? Who came to your aid when business was bad or you lost everything?

The government did research the use of the internet but sat on it for 30 years accomplishing nothing, it wasn't till private businesses became involved that the internet became a reality.

Businesses found the cures for diseases, medicines that cure or allow people to live longer. Businesses built the bridges, the roads, the homes we live in. The list is long.

Without businesses you'd still be plowing your own fields where you either made it or you didn't. There wouldn't be any free handouts because you would need your labor to sustain yourself.

All those docs self-educated?

Any of them have licenses of any kind?

Benefit from know that when they write a scrip there is a very high likelihood it will be properly filled by a licensed pharmacist?

Benefit from being paid by Medicaid or Medicare--instead of chickens and baskets of potatoes?

Yes, they all worked hard. But they did so within a system designed to ensure that their hard work paid off--for them and their patients.

There have always been doctors and pharmacist for many years before government intrusion forced fees for licenses for income GDP purposes, which helped the doctors and pharmacist with absolutely nothing.

Same thing goes for the public school system which churches started and never needed govt intrusion who came along and bastardized the "child brainwashing machine" of today.

Pretty revisionist history there.

Once upon a time medicine was pretty wide-open to whoever wanted to hand out a shingle--self-study and apprenticeship being the leading means of preparation. It has been far more than a century since the profession moved away from such haphazard preparation. Early medical schools were offshoots of hospitals, with faculty drawn from any docs willing to contribute.

At roughly the same point in history the concept of "public health" began to draw government into the field of ensuring general sanitation and measures to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, coupled with a hefty dose of educating folks on how best to maximize these efforts.

Licensing, in any field, is a means of protecting the public from unprepared practitioners. Protects health, property, pocketbook.

Public education, which many used to consider the cornerstone of democracy, is so widely accepted that I'll wager you cannot find a civilized country in the world where its benefits are not recognized.

And there is no person in this country who has not benefitted from it in some way or another. Even those who partake of "private" education.

Doctors license do absolutely nothing to protect the public. If they lose their license in one state, they can just move to another and start over with no problems.

Its just a way for govt to make money and try to control citizens.

Give it up, friend.

You cannot disabuse Reader of the notion that government knows best and citizens should be collectively dependent upon its will.

Two are from private medical schools and paid their own way through working and taking out personal loans. They all have license though because they are required by law, but don't kid yourself that you think the government does then any favors by forcing them to spend large amounts of money on continuing education and licensure fees. It's simply another tax to practice their profession. Maybe we should make all professions pay a fee and get continuing Ed to work at their jobs.
None of them take Medicaid and only one takes Medicare because the reimbursement is an insult. Again more government intrusion and taxation for their services.

The nonsense you spew about the pharmacist is crap. The majority of their scripts are probably filled by a pharm tech at CVS who has little knowledge of medications. Pharmacy is not their jobs but nice try at grasping at straws to involve the government.

Everything you mention has been more of a roadblock and hassle for them to practice a trade that they've been doing for years and is legislated to them by people who know very little about what they do. Then again from your previous posts I gather you are a member of the high heel brigade and know very little about what a real medical professional does.

All of them completed the required steps to become a medical doctor. A system that gets more and more bloated each year by the government with the same results. Also a journey several thousand begin each fall at colleges and fail miserably at. So sorry now they did build that and did so by several years of hardcore studying and rear end busting.

I noticed they also deleted the thread called "8 prejudiced things blacks do". This happened while I was posting on there with Reader and Jonah a few days ago.

Yes, it is the Gestapo that must run around and cater to the whiners by censoring anything that the dirtballs dont agree with. Communistic censorship pure and simple.

Not sure that was the accurate heading.

I sometimes have a hard time locating threads that have passed down the list if I try to search. Their seach engine requires a specific term.

It disappeared while we 3 were posting. You posted, I posted, then Jonah posted, I went to another thread, tried to return to that thread within one minute of posting and it wouldn't allow me to go there again. I saw where Jonah had posted last in that minute, then the thread would just blink off of the page. I tried to find it again and it was completely gone, deleted. Why? especially when there are even more racial conversations going on in other threads? Makes no sense. Nothing bad was said either. Why would you say it was in need of a search engine when it should have been at the top of the list having just been posted into within one minute? Also, I tried the search engine and it can't be found.

My thread call Boycott Muslim Businesses disappeared that same day also. Funny isnt it? There are TONS of threads about Muslims and Boycotts thru out Topix but its just really weird those are gone. hmmm.

It disappeared because of the moderators being cried to by liberal trash. Reader has never supported anything but muslims and marxists that seek to destroy the United States.

I agree with boycotting muslim businesses given the way many muslim have refused service to our Military men when on leave etc.

Well, i, I really don't know. I have never understood why some things remain while others go away. Most of the time if I catch something befor it goes away--or someone puts it back--it is pretty obvious why it was removed. But there is always far more trash abounding. And when Bob gets going he can really not only crank out new stuff but keep putting the old stuff back. It's like reading in circles sometimes.

If you do some googling on the topic of Topix, there have been lawsuits over content from time to time. They have a CYA disclaimer--but it's hard telling how that might hold up in each and every case--if someone can cite actual damages.

And apparently there is more thought behind the whole thing than just putting up boards and selling advertising. I read an interview with guy who created/owns Topix. He talked about creating communities--and dealing with the challenge of having sufficient "feeds" especially without newpapers linking. So, it is entirely possible that the fluidity is not completely arbitrary, but more like manaqement trying various responses.
