Somalis building West Side mosque

This will likley lead to further collapse of the Georgesville Rd and W Broad area of Franklin County. There was an attempt by an African Co to buy the largest apartment complex in Columbus behind the now defunct Westland Mall to make it a Somali community.
This group has added burden to the Southwestern City Schools with no taxes being paid by non citizens and the schools being forced toi educate kids that can't speak English.
Further where are jobs for a greater influz of Somalis into the community this will draw ? Where and who will be burdened by the medical bills since they have no insurance ?
It is not a good development for Columbus who has had the second largets somalis community in the country and we need to ask why before we see more of a taxpayer burden on a cash strapped county,city state and schools.
I do not obeject to immigration as long as the group coming here pulls their own waeight. We have not see this from the Somali community since the country they come from is so far different from ours.

I sure hope non-Muslim residents in the area are ready for the 5 "calls to prayer" that will be broadcast over outside loudspeakers EVERY day. The best you can hope for is a reduction with the first and last call eliminated after months of court battles. Hamtramk, Michigan has an abundance of mosques and fought the fight to a compromise that neither side is happy with. If you don't like what you hear complain loud and often. Don't wait for your neighbor to call first. It's the only way you will get results.

This is so horrible how can one even contemplate such a thing. You might as well commit suicide. Just take an honest look at where they came from and that is how the west side is going to look in a few years. Huge mistake.

The only way to combat this is for all Americans to work for 5.00 an hour with no healthcare. Then immigration will be curtailed tomorrow morning. Goodbye, Columbus. I'm outta here.

Where are they getting the money to build this mosque and a recreation center ? Could it be stolen from ships near their home country ? None of them have that kind of cash and just what local bank would loan them this amount ?
Who is bankrolling this and is ignorant enough to further destroy the west side of our community ???
Do our elceted county commissioner support this ? What about Franklin Township Trustees and I almost asked about the City of Columbus but Mike Coleman and his band of council followers would be all smiles about this would they not ??

I don't like me them Somalianistic people none neither, but maybe I can pay one of them real cheap to fix up my pickup with a ma deuce in the back like they got over in Mogadishu. That would rock!

GREAT so they will have dead bodies in the building. I know they bury before sunset etc. But isn't this in violation of Ohio laws governing the handling and disposal of human remains.

This is a great addition to the fabric of this city. Hard work, discipline, and general optimism towards better days to come is as American as Apple Pie and these newly arrived immigrants from Somalia are practicing it with success. We ought to follow their example or at least draw inspiration from their story. Kudos Somalis!!!

What is there to hate about them? They are decent, hard-working, law abiding citizens who come to our country legally without breaking the law of this land. Adhan is the proper term for being call to prayer. There is a mosque in my neighborhood and this is no more a problem than the ringing of church bells. The first call to prayer occurs BEFORE sunrise as the eastern sky just begins to lighten. At this time of year we are talking about 0530. If this mosque is built as others I have seen the loudspeakers are going to be incorporated into the structure; hard to see but impossible to ignore when they are used. I will not denigrate the sound of the call but it is hardly in the same league as the ringing of church bells.

Just remember that most of you posting these nasty comments about Somalis are descended from some other immigrant group that was criticized and put down when they came to America: Irish, German, Italian, etc.

You are correct! But when my family immigrated to America, they didn't get off the boat looking for a hand-out. Nor did they make statements about hating Americans and the American way of life.
