Full story: Columbus Dispatch

School districts across central Ohio learned today that the list of things parents want their children protected from -- drugs, predators, violence -- now includes the president of the United States delivering a "stay in school" message.

If Right-wing parents had faith in the merits of conservative logic and in the intellectual independence of the children they're raising, they wouldn't be so paranoid.

No fear here. My children have concluded independently that Obama is lying whenever his lips are moving. Pretty smart kids.

I am truly disgusted! If you don't want your child to watch the President, have them do something else during that time. For these schools to cancel this address is shameful. I'm sure this speech can be beneficial to many school children.

These Parents have no faith in their children. That's why kids today act the way they do ignorant, and disrespectful. They need as much help as they can get.

More manufactured outrage. George Bush spoke to school kids while in office. It's been a long tradition that children listen to, or read the words of the president, as the elected representative of the majority of the citizenry. Lincoln's speeches, Washington's speeches, Reagan's speeches.

The idea is that children might learn from hearing an intelligent role model speak.

But apparently, this sort of respect is dead in the modern "conservative" movement. Now it's just cheap shots at any Democrat in office.

Socialism naturally appeals to children. So does candy. They haven't yet learned that neither is good for them, and need to be protected.

If any foreign country needed any additional evidence that the U.S. has come completely unhinged (I doubt that they do) then the final straw is that America's parents are so terrified of their own president, that they won't even let him talk to their children -- about staying in school? Unbelievable.

I didn't care for President George W. Bush, and I was all too happy to see him retire to his Texas ranch back in January, but I made sure my children respected him and the office he held. Just as I made sure they respected their teachers, coaches, police officers and anyone in a position of leadership.

You can dislike the president or even hate him if want (the latter is clearly in full effect), but afford the man the respect of the office he holds if nothing else.

Or have we lost our sensibilities to even do that?

This entire discussion is just pathetic! There is nothing wrong with what the President is going to be talking about and shame on parents for acting so childish.

its clear we have an incompetent president who has nothing to contribute to the well being of our country. Children avert your eyes! He is a poor model of an American and bad influence!

Once again, public institutions crumble to ignorance, fold to the rhetoric whipped up by the Beck crazies, rather than stand up for what is right. A few vocal crazies have shown they can get their way if they cry loud enough. These same folks don't say a word about schools forcing Channel One on their kids. If their goal is to kill democracy and force their narrow views on the education system, then these schools are playing into their hands.

This is absolutely absurd. I am sick and tired of these paranoid right-wing nut cases--egged on by the misinformation spewed by Fox News and others--controlling what I see, hear, and say. First they shout down people with honest questions and concerns about health care reform at town meetings. Now they're 'shouting down' my child and others from having the chance to hear the President speak directly to them about the importance of education and staying in school. The notion that this is an 'indoctrination' is outrageous and paranoid. It's time for the sane people in this country to stand up and shout "No more!".

Obama is a malodorous heap of parrot droppings.

Obama can't be trusted.
His truthfullness is rusted.
Not one truth said , since he's been head.
Our great big hopes have busted.

Anybody that can hire a creep like Van Jones shouldn't be talking to children. He should be talking to a good shrink.

Obama rehired Bernanke.
I think that's really stanky.
Why give the job to the guy that who.
Is crooked, bald, and skanky.

Obama has no brain.
He thinks from the loin.
The only way that he decides is,
To flip a coin.

What a bunch of idiots. What are people afraid of? Maybe the school
administrators should quit listening to the vocal minority. I didn't even
know about the president's address. Now that I do I want my daughter
to see it but now because of a few vocal conservatives she won't be able
to. Where were these same people when Bush made his address to
students? Why was that okay?

Good job Hilliard, Dublin and Olentangy. Columbus schools just don't get it. I resent Obama's obvious intent to use students as pawns in his grand hopey - changey plans. Next he'll be trying to make the kids listen to Bruce Springsteen sing about him.

It is to listen to the spendbama supporter whine! Clearly the American people are waking up and seeing what is really going on. Spendbama is a liar! Why would we want him to talk to our children? And no less in school where the teacher is unionized and most likely a dem. The guy in the article has it right, why is he doing this? Why not spend the day working on the 2 wars or the failing economy? Or ruining the healthcare system! His approval rating is in the toilet, there is no coming back. And for the guy that says its because of his race, you are a jacka.ss! You should just never open your mouth ever again. And for spendbama STAY THE %UCK AWAY FROM MY CHILDREN!!!
