Gambling is Gambling, There is no difference in putting your money in a slot machine or buying a (Ohio Lottery) ticket a raffel ticket, Bingo, betting on some horses, dogs its all gambling. If a person has a problem with gambling they have lots of ways to gamble not just slot machines. Do away with all gambling. We gamblers will continue to drive out of state with our money that could stay in this state.

Why only race tracks? I don't know anyone who would go to one of the race tracks, when they can go right across the state line.
Open up real casinos, or let the slots be put in any business that sells lottery tickets.
I imagine the state is getting some big money from the race tracks to confine it to the race tracks only.

The horse tracks are dying. This is just a sorry attempt to keep the patient alive. Governor "Turn Around" Ted Strickland is finally showing his true colors with this end run around the ballot box.

The only people who are vocal against the casinos are those who want to make decisions for others. The only reason the casinos didn't pass last time is because 1) they put a provision in the bill that said if an indian casino is built is does not have to pay taxes then neither will the casinos. That provision is not in this new bill. 2) The people who are pushing this bill paid all of the money to campaign against the last one. No one has any money left to campaign against it.

So, to all of you crazy bible thumpers who once again want to push your beliefs onto other people remember that the only reason your have the ability to practice your religion is because of freedom of choice. Now, you want to take that freedom away from the rest of us because it is against your moral beliefs.

The casinos will be here and I will laugh as you hand me a pamphlet about my impending trip to hell because I gamble then I will ask you to explain why the catholics have bingo and gambling!

Here's the reality:

the number of pro casino people is twice that of those who are against casinos. The difference on election day is made up of a staggering number of people who just don't care. So they vote no, not because they have a beef with gambling but because they see no reason to rock the boat.

It shouldn't even be a ballot issue. 99% of the people who go to casinos gamble responsibly and the 1% who don't manage to find other ways to screw their lives up.

It shouldn't even be a ballot issue. Let developers build casinos and people can vote with their business. If Ohio really doesn't want a casino they won't make enough money to pay the rent.

I think Ohioans have made their position clear in opposing Casino gambling. It should not be allowed in Ohio. I think Govenor Strickland made a very wrong choice. I agree with David Zanotti.

Minnesota has native American casinos, and a state-run lottery. State government does not make enough on gambling to prevent us from being one of the highest taxed states in the union. Meanwhile thousands of citizens are lured into gambling addiction, and we taxpayers have to pay for state medicaid to try to cure their addiction. To say nothing of the pain and misery that gambling addiction costs their families in bankruptcies, divorces, and costs society in violent crime to pay for gambling habits.

Why slots are a good idea:

Federal Tax = 28%
State Tax = 6%
City Tax = 2%
FICA/SE Tax = 15.3%

Total Marginal Tax Burden = 51.3%, not including sales tax, gasoline tax, property tax, license plate fees, etc.

Can someone explain to me why more cuts is such a bad thing?

I agree with Ismith. Ohio already has gambling. The Ohio Lottery. I remember when that started. It also was severly debated and criticized for the horrible pain and suffering it would inflict on the sheep that blindly gaze into its promise of vast fortunes, yet continue on into sure destruction. Yes, there are the unfortunate few that blow their familys grocery money on it. But then there are the many that blow the food budget on booze and other dependancies. Bingo!!! I know I know, that is ran by the Catholic church, to help offset the costs of the Parish. But more and more not for profit`s are springing up with bingo halls to satisfy the cravings of the people who just know that today will be their lucky day to go home rich!!
I don`t care to gamble and throw my hard earned money away, but millions of Ohio voters do. If you don`t want to gamble, fine, stay home like me. But we will all benefit from the millions of dollars that stay in Ohio.
The real gamble in Ohio is driving on the freeway system anywhere near a major city.

Ohio has always been a backwater state. Always, trying to catch up with everyone else.Casinos in Ohio are long overdue. It's about time somebody finally understands and sees the light.
The problem in Ohio has always been groups like the Ohio Roundtable with their personal political motives.
Bring on the casinos...we don't need groups like this "looking" for everybody's personal business.
Yipeeeee !

Many have opinions, but have any actually researched unbiased material. Nothing is free and have you actually visited the 25 mile surrounding areas of casinos. Mountaineer has actually lost money recently. It has not improved the surrounding community in any way. Many people have been laid off. Visit the area and see for yourself what a great place it would be to raise your children. Please do not be naive enough to believe it could not end up in your back yard.
Research proves the closer a casino is the greater the chance of having problem gamblers. Teenagers are 7% more likely to have problems with gambling.
So, before you through your four letter words around, which by the way reveals your intelligence, try using some facts to back up your opinion.

will all you bible thumpers please just go away or go to michigan! Give the rest of the people in this state a break on your pathetic moral outlook on lives. You are against gambling, while not be against the wife beating, child abusing and comedically high divorse rates of your so called "moral groups" if you want to cure societies ills, why not look at yourselves before pronouncing blame on others! let us gamble if we want to and let us run our lives the way we want to.

Why put words in our mouths or assume what we are for or against. I do not place blame the facts speak volumes. All I hear from ohioguy are words not facts. If a company wanted to market a product, it would be very difficult to convince anyone to back it with the high percentage of problems, robberies, suicides, even murders the product will cause. These words are Facts. Research or speak with someone who has lived the life. Prove gambling is harmless. Try to change my opinion with some facts. I will listen. By the way, the rest of the people should include the ones that voted against gambling four times.
Are you speaking for them?

hey betty, why don't you speak when you live in this state. want facts, how about over 50% divorse rate in this country, how about over 100 people being murdered in columbus every year, what about umemployment running at a nation high of almost 10%. the problem with you and the rest of your fellow bible thumpers is that you can't get your big noses out of anybodies business. People are going to gamble and if they get in trouble with it that is their own fault, the basic facts are that this state is in a budget crisis and while a government does have pork problems, basic necessities such as police protection and fire departments can only go down so far in their funding before basic service hurts the common good. once again, people are going to gamble so let's keep the money in our state and do proactive things to get out of the deficit and keep "your morals" out of public good.

Do you want the rest of the story told? Well what about all the people that already spend there money on lottery tickets and there families suffer when all the money is gone and no food, house payment, bills, ect get paid? The Casion industry only promotes there existance for there own profit. If you would have the numbers on what they take in and what is paid out it is not even close, they are in it to make $$$$. The state would not be putting up Huge gambling casinos like in Vegas. Ohioans have and still will vote it down another time. Gambling isnt the answer to jobs in Ohio. The Lottery promised to help schools. Well the small amount of money they send to schools isnt a drop in the bucket to what people thought they were going to get when it came into existance. There are schools closing all over the state from lack of funds. Why is that, since the lottery promised to help our schools? So why do you think this would be any different? There is always two sides to any story. Gambling isnt all Lights and Glitter like Vegas shows us. There is a very dark side to it. Poverty, Welfare, Suicide, just to name a few. Yes the Casino industry paid you well, they take care of there own. Just like in any business that wants to look good to the public.

I think Ohioans against gaming need to pull their heads out of their butts. I came to Ohio 2.5 yrs. ago from the AZ-NV area. Do these people realize the amount of jobs casinos bring? Not to mention the amount of taxes generated from casinos. Nevada, still to this day, has no personal tax, because of the revenue generated by the casinos. I worked in the casinos for quite a few years, so, I can tell you they pay good wages and offer great benefits, something desperately needed in Ohio right now.
WAKE UP OHIOANS!!!!! Do not let the prehistoric beliefs ruin the potential jobs that would revive Ohios' economy and schools,

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Pisces

This is another good day to be tactful, and if anything you'll be even more successful than you were yesterday. This is not to be sneezed at, so seize the opportunity to talk to people who can sometimes be very touchy or who need to be handled with kid gloves. If you meet someone who's older or more influential than you, you'll be a big hit with them.
