Get informed! There are monthly minutes where you can read about where your money is going. My children are in a education system that has gone from quality to piss poor because they have cut so much spending. Since when is that status quo?

Don’t you want to be informed, know what is going on, instead of just being led around by the nose in hopes that everything will be just hunky-dory (Status quo)? Not me! I am not hateful to education in Reynoldsburg. What I am for is a reasonable explanation as to how and why my money is spent. It is my money… it is your money. Reasonable explanation: It's being used to pay teachers (less than the county average) and for instructional materials. Next?

Look at the board minutes to find out where spending is going. It is not secret. All school districts spend the most money on employees. I would guess about 85% of the budget. My children need a quality education however Reynoldsburg is quickly bottoming out.(explain how that is status quo) As a parent, I can not afford to not say no to the schools whether or not I want to be taxed anymore. School funding is school funding whether we like it or not. The local level is not the place to take out your frustation.

The teachers are now on deck (I wouldn't say they have stepped up to the plate yet) by freezing salaries. When everyone else in the community is losing their jobs/taking serious pay CUTS it is very hard to say yes to a levy when concessions are not being made. Everyone else in the community has made concessions already...

SAY IT ISN"T SO must not pay federal/state taxes until he scrutinizes all government spending. Instead of complaining call the school & ask for an appointment to discuss items you question as "unreasonable". Unfortunately those that will be hurt by withholding local school levies are the children, businesses, and property owners. It is easy to be informed - educate yourself! Review & compare Reynoldsburg Schools on how much is spent educating each child and how the state classifies our school district - pretty impressive!!!

Leadership starts at top and change begins from the bottom when those who are not satisfied with their leadership want a change and want to make sure that their money is being spent in a prudent manner. I always thought that the BOE was responsible for making sure that the District was operated in a fiscally responsible manner. Boy was I wrong. They are merely a rubber stamp for the administration. Can you show me, in the minutes a “NO” vote by any member of the board? I couldn’t find one! Then your have the committee assignments for the Board: Martin – On Finance committee – spouse employed by the district Legacy – 1.3 Million dollar football field Swope – On Negotiating Committee – spouse employed by the district Legacy – Negotiated last contract with the union for “only” a 3% pay raise and 4% step increases along with 10% employee portion for medical and almost free dental. I'd bet that was a tough negotiation. I would suspect he is now behind the “Extraordinary freeze” instead of negotiating for a cut in salaries and benefits to be more in line with what the community has already suffered.

It is such an immature response to say, "Since things are tough for me, things should be tough for everyone." Teachers are the 2nd-lowest paid profession that requires a college degree. No one goes into teaching to make money. They do it simply for the fact that they know that no profession has a more direct impact on the real lives of people and their potential for human growth (with the possible exception of the ministry). Is a simple living wage too much to ask for?

Teachers as a whole might be underpaid but Reynoldsburg teachers/administration make more than a "simple living wage". I bet some teachers have cell phones and flat screens that you speak of.

Quit complaining and run for BOE since you know who to use money prudently. By the way, a NO vote doesn't always mean money saved. A YES vote could be to save money. For example, the 11 million dollars in cuts were all followed by a YES vote. You must look beyond the word NO. Change from the bottom must be productive not accusatory! I believe everyone who has taken the time to post a comment to this article have done their homework. Issues with how monies are spent are simply not black and white. Some say cell phones, TV's etc are negotiable, some say teacher and staff salaries are negotiable. It will all come down once again to a vote. When the voters are presented with a levy amount that is sustainable for the majority of voters, the levy will pass, until that time comes it will fail. Time will tell

Technically SWCS didn't give up a raise. Their memorandum of understanding had a "catch-up" provision which gave them back their "conceded" money the following year. That just delays expenditure. However, let's be very clear, this is NOT what the Reynoldsburg teachers have done. They have agreed to a contract with no raises whatsoever, and no catch up provisions. They will not receive a raise. Therefore, in fact, you are wrong in a good way. Not only have they matched SWCS in concessions, they've by far exceeded them. Poor schools with a high school real estate tax rate will drive the housing market down. If you are a prospective buyer (employment and cash-flow is not an issue or you would not be a prospective buyer) and you are looking at competing markets, school performance and opportunity will be a huge factor. Foreclosures are in many markets, marketability will depend on school performance and taxes. Why would you buy in a market where you have to drive your kids to school, phasing out orchestra, pay to play extracurriculars, and is a commuter market (drive elsewhere to work)?
One reason PRICE.

Man, the teachers take a pay freeze and GIVE UP their step increase. And still some of you nuts are still not happy. Probably wont be until these poor teachers are stripped down to making minimum wage and paying for all of their healthcare.
What will we whine about then?
