I didn't even know Sutherland's was still in business. They shut down in Dayton when I was still living there--and they were in a good neighborhood!(South Dayton, Miamisburg-Centerville Rd.)

I miss the one that used to be in Hilliard...they had great hardware. Now, I have to go to Sears Hardware unless you want to deal with one of the warehouse stores.

The Nelson Road store was a dump long past its prime.

I went there a couple years ago when we had a salt shortage. Just happened to call them when a truckload came in. I bought 20- 40lb bags,(used 5 bags) Of course, not used any this winter yet.
The one off Clime & 3C was nice. IMO

That must've been before my time here. Sutherland's in Dayton went under about the time Lowe's went in. But Dayton is a much smaller market.

The Nelson Rd. store has been there since at least 1961.

Ok, maybe I'm directionally challenged, maybe not.

Nelson doesn't run through Hilliard as far as I know. It runs through the far west side and Galloway.

I've only lived here for 4-5 years. Typically don't run down Nelson Road or go down Clime so I'm clueless here.

I buy from that location. When they have their sale on treated 6 foot fence boards I buy 10 or more bunks at a time

Yes I know that. I was somewhat confused by the Hilliard mention. I confused Nelson with Norton. Realized it after I sent the msg. I'm entitled to the occasional mistake.

You can get a good deal if you notice it from there. We used to get a flyer from them every now and then in dispatch. For a few years, I would scrap any treated 4' or over off sites we built at. I scraped enough to plate 3 new garages, 1 deck, 1-14' fence and had a little left over I gave away.

Nothing wrong with saving excess materials. I know a guy who cleaned streets in Dominion and M/I developments and he would pick up all kinds of scrap when the building boom was on, lots of untreated 4 by 4 and long 2by 6 used for basement wall braces when back filled, cedar scraps etc.

My dad was in construction but he did the same thing. He retired about 20 years ago and we still have stuff in his garage we raid all the time. I'm still using nails from his old jobs.

I'll never get over how much ply-wood (OSB), we used to burn in a fire to just stay warm or keep the tools from freezing up. Waste whole tubes of glue to get it going. I don't know how much shit we burned up from being to close to fire. We melted our microwave, clothe's of every kind, burn holes in air hoses and cords. I can't stop laughing about all the shit we wasted though.

I started out in interior trim back in the day, and we had tons of stuff we scraped from jobs. I mean we must of had; 30 solid wood door slabs, probably 100 baluster's & knoll posts, feet after feet of trim(mostly crown mold), cabinet's galore, etc. I made a good chunk of change off that. Not even stealing it, asking for it or they would say use it when short on other houses for someone.
