He's done a lot for the University but I hate seeing colleges and hospitals named after individuals. I thought OSU and the OSU Medical Center were bigger than just one person...
What's next? The Wexner University of Ohio... I can't think of any one person who has done more for the University but this is ridiculous.
I can't believe the trustees are so afraid of Wexner that they would vote unanimously for this.
Thoughts?

You do know many of the medical buidlings / divisions are named after donors this isn't the first.

"Limited Brands' THE Ohio State University" sound to you? What about "Victoria's Secret Ohio Stadium" ? The Bath and Body Works Buckeyes?

I don't have any comment on Wexner other than the fact that he operates a sweat shop and that is well known. He made his money on the backs of others, yet he has his name on at least four prominent places at the university: Wexner Center for the Arts; The OSU Scoreboard; The Woody Hayes Athletic Center; and now the Hospital. Yes, you have to give the guy credit for giving money to the university, but this is ridiculous. Just rename the place Wexner State or Christ Killer State or Jew State and get it over with.

Granted, Wexner donated and traditionally that gets your name on a building, but the whole Medical Center? And one that was built with tax dollars over the course of a century. One more example of the ridiculous grip the so-called "Titans" have on the university and on the city in general.

Of course, in this bizarro world, if you're a lefty congresswoman and get lucky enough to have a psycho shoot you in the head, you get a US Navy vessel named after you...while you're still alive.

Besides, it's tacky. The Lazarus family was instrumental in getting Ohio Stadium built. The Lazarus family built Lazarus into Federated and Macy's. Funny how their name doesn't appear on any buildings.

Stephen D. Steinour is Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Huntington Bancshares Incorporated, a $52 billion regional bank holding company headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. Prior to joining Huntington, he was Managing Partner of CrossHarbor Capital where he was an investment committee member and responsible for the general management of the firm. He has a building and a ballpark, but not named after him either.

The hospital has been around for a long time, built with a lot of tax dollars and through the efforts of a lot of people. It would be different if he invented a cure for cancer, but the fact that he wrote out a check is just plain tacky.

Not to mention the fact that the whole freaking university is named for a bunch of freaking Jews. Wexner, Schottenstein, Max Fisher, Desche, Diamond ... didn't any protestants have anything to do with making the university what it is? or Any Catholics? Gauche. So we're going to let a bunch of rag peddlers write out checks and we turn over naming rights to the whole place?

I actually find this more offensive than corporate naming rights. At least a corporation is a collection of people, so it doesn't leave a bad taste in your mouth to have Nationwide on a hospital. But Wexner's contribution is more important than that of the thousands of volunteers, students and staff who work at the hospital?
Somebody needs a reality check.

I agree with your first post, but you forgot, Woody Hayes, Jesse Owens or Michael E Moritz. To me, They can name them place's any damn name they want. don't really bother me...I can't think of anyone that qualifies more than someone that give's $100,000,000. Maybe they should have called it "The Limited".. I was born there, and i'm limited to what i can and can't do. lol

I agree about the naming rights. It's ridiculous, but it happens. However, how does the university turn down that type of offer when there are millions of dollars on the hook? I'm not sure it can. The ego stroke for the ultra wealthy. Wright State did the same. Raj Soin School of Business. The Raj and Indu Soin Medical Center (which is connected to WSU and Kettering Medical Network). Boonshoft School of Medicine. Fritz and Delores Russ Engineering Center.

What has he done for the University other than money? I worked at Wexner Heritage House for years, a long time ago. His Mother, as I understand it, was extremely involved with actually volunteering and had genuine concern for the mission and also donated money. Wings are named after other Jewish donors and while working there had the honor of receiving new state of the art kitchen equipment in the name of loved ones that wanted to help with the cause but didn't or couldn't afford the cost of a wing, but gave back.
If folklore is correct on what his Mother did for that facility, she must be rolling over in her grave.
Philanthropy is wonderful, if you do more than just write a check so you can admire your name in lights.

I actually have less of a problem with sports, the business school and even Wright State than I do with the hospital. George is right. The hosptial has been around over a hundred years. Lots of people took part in making it what it is. Furthermore, lots of people go in and out of there all the time and it is supposed to do good things for society. To name it after a sweat shop owner, who wrote out a big check is very distasteful, IMO. The hospital belongs to the citizens of the State of Ohio, not to a rag peddler.

I have no doubt that the man has done a lot for the university, and that his input has been very valuable. I'm just saying that naming the entire hospital for him is inappropriate. I once built a building for a non-profit group. They wanted to recognize me for it, and I told them no. I told them, I had nothing to do with making the money, I just got to do the fun stuff and that everybody deserved the recognition. But that's just me and although I'm doing okay, I don't have billions.

Damn, you're making my ass tired trying to figure out what career you'll profess to have done next. My guess the building you constructed was a Port-O-Pot.

Don't get me wrong--I'm not opposing you here. I agree. My thinking is that the doctors, nurses, technicians, volunteers, etc. are the ones who keep it in prominence. Without that type of service and skills, you can't have a world class medical center. It's just money without them. It's not just distasteful--it's downright ego stroking and insulting IMHO. But I guess where I was heading: what can be done about it?
