I agree what he did was very wrong and he should pay the price as would any other citizen. One question though, why is it that when a police officer or fireman commit a crime (traffic or criminal) they get charged and sentenced in court (and pay like every other person, but they always get the added emphasis of people calling for their jobs?

Its not because they are public officials because Americans never hold politicians accountable, judges, lawyers, prosecutors etc...but police especially and sometimes fire...now they have to be punished more than the average person. Do you really think a manager at Kmart would lose his job for this? His job and his deed are two different things.

Down here in southwest Ohio, particularly in Cincinnati, such well-deserved firings are almost ALWAYS overturned if the employee appeals to an arbitrator. I hate to say it, but don't be surprised if (a) he appeals being fired, and (b) it's overturned by the arbitrator, so he's re-instated with back pay. It's almost as predictable as the sun rising in the east, and it greatly frustrates Cincinnati city management, its police/fire leadership, but above all, the public!
they didn't fire the guy who ran over his ex's new boyfriend with a truck...even after he was found guilty of a felony.....How can the fire this guy and make it stick ????

Thank you, Chief Pettus. This man should be fired. His behavior, and lack of remorse, indicates that he has an anti-social personality disorder (called a psychopath or sociopath). I do not want him in my home if I need the services of the fire department.

The bitter irony is that dogs assist firefighters in performing their jobs. Many dogs are trained in search and rescue procedures; they are able to enter spaces too small for firefighters and have a keen sense of smell and hearing. The dalmation has been their mascot for several years.

I am a state employee. If I did this, the media reports would say "State employee brags to co-workers about killing her dogs." Yes, I would be fired. In fact, guideline provisions for most state employees stipulate termination for this crime.

Let's send a message to the Mayor - if he is Not fired, we will vote against the tax levy in August. That way, the city will have to lay off fire fighters and I am sure he will be on the top of their list. I praise the fire chief and hope the public sfety director has the leadership to do the same. Email the mayor!

All you stupid morons on here saying "it's just dogs" need to pick the corn out of your front TOOTH and catch up with society! We all know when your wife misbehaves it's OK to "slap er down" and you "loves you some Browns football" but seriously .. pick your head out of your ass - you're not impressing us with your toughness! This MORON is going to get fired - LIFE IS GOOD! Look at him! Invite him to your next Browns party and "hook em up" with a roofing job! That's where he needs to be!

Gonzo you are in Illinois. He is pumped up as are a few others and the act of rage it took to hang two dogs and shoot them inside a house fits roid rage PERFECTLY.
Not sure how Illinois got on there Roid Rage, but you throwing out steriods is just a theory your stating as fact. Have you seen this guy, I have, and don't believe steriods is the problem. How about a individual with serious mental issues? Seems more the case to me. And that also fits the bill. And please before you accuse your public servants of being drug abusers, know your facts. It makes for a much better argument.

I wouldn't want anyone who's capable of killing his own pets to be in a position of saving lives. He's shown that he lacks compassion and I don't think he should continue to work in such a vocation where people trust him with their lives. He has serious issues and should see a shrink.

To do what he did is unforgiveable. If they didn't have time to rescue people from a burning house would they "kill" them? I relate this case with the Michael Vicks case. Both disgusting. Wouldn't it have been to surrender them to a rescue organization (even though they are overcrowded) than to commit this crime?

In a recent article it was mentioned how hard it is to fire a civil service employee. If the idiot judge and prosecutor didn't plea bargain and made the jail time to be consecutive days, how can he miss 90 days of work without being fired? If he has that much vacation, then no wonder the city's budget is in the can.
