INCREDIBLE ! This court decision is absurd...only in Ohio would the state supreme court hold that an officer's estimate is good enough for a speeding ticket.Oconnor and the other REPUGS on the court ought to be ashamed of themselves.

This is stupid. How in the hell can someone estimate speed and actually write a ticket for it? Are the supreme court justices who voted for this on crack? Looks like I now know who to not vote back on the court next election. If they vote like this then I do not trust them to vote the right way for other issues.

If you're making someone pay a fine, then you better have proof. I mean the cop could be having a bad day and really dislike japanese made cars. Could this mean if he or she sees a japanese made car that he or she could have a personal vendetta and "say" the car was speeding just to relieve some anger?

Seriously I will not vote for any supreme court justice that ruled against Mark W. Jenney. And yes I vote at every election.

You can offer visual judgements, but there is a BIG grey area when a cop can cite you for speed visually.
Radar and Laser is scientic, however if not calibrated and serviced as required is possible to be inaccurate.
Visual is so far off it should never be permitted as the sole defining method of evidence by the police.
As a retired cop, I know many times tickets were written and the officer knew the speed was lower than the visual judgement as noted. Case in point is VASCAR which is basically a stopwatch, a start point and end point and the seconds in between is the clocked speed. An itchy thumb or late thumb will result in a citation. NO SCIENCE here.

This is shocking and I am left speechless. Giving police, or anybody for that matter, complete and unfettered discretion is the first step in creating a total police state. This decision means that police are now the judge and jury too. How can anyone ever get a fair judicial hearing when the only evidence needed is 'what I saw'. This is so ridiculous to almost be comical. Unfortunately, it is not. And do we think our lawmakers will pass a law to fix this gigantic loophole??

I know in Michigan at the end of every day every cop needs to test their radar gun to make sure it's accurate. If found to not be accurate, all speeding tickets written that day are thrown out. I'm sure it's the same in Ohio.

Glad I don't live in Ohio anymore. This is bad for the drivers in Ohio. This means a cop can pull you over and give you a ticket just because he says so. Everyone knows there are good cops and bad ones too. What's to keep the bad ones from pulling you over because there are too many blacks or hispanics in the car (which is racial profiling) and use visual signs of speedind as the reason. What makes this stupid decision any different than the one in Arizona. Maybe everyone needs to boycott the state of Ohio just like they are trying to do against Arizona. Stupid is as Stupid does!!!

I haven't had a speeding ticket in 30 years, but in my early 20's I got pulled over for doing "50 in a 35". The cop was across the road from his motorcycle - and radar. He had just let another guy go and flagged me down. I had just pulled away from a red light. When he told me he was giving me a ticket for doing 50 I said there was no way - I had just left a red light! He said, "Okay. 45." then he wrote me a ticket for 45 in a 35.
I of course went to court and told the judge what happened. He just looked at the officer, pointed his finger at him and said something like, "You keep doing this stuff and you will be looking for another type of work". Evidently I wasn't the first one he did this to.
There is NO way ANYONE can gauge speed with their eyes. This is an absolute joke!

Taxpayer money at work again! FOP donations, funded by law enforcement salaries paid for with tax dollars. I wonder if Nash would ever look into Republican fraud. Or how about just Fraud! Maybe his boss won't allow him.
