According to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life, 64% of people in the age range 18-29 say they are 'absolutely certain' that god exists. This is lower than the 73% of people over 30, another sign of the decrease in religiosity of younger people.

Judged: 1 RE: Being certain about god's existence ..... Many people have and/or had religious experiences, had their prayers answered, even if they were silent thoughts only told to nobody, and they were helped by someone or something "out there" when no other help was available. These people KNOW from their own experience that God or gods or spirits or (whatever) EXISTS. That may be quite different from what clergy try to propagate and also different from what it may say in some "holy" literature. ..... Many others never had their prayers, if any, answered, nor were they helped, and these people KNOW from their own experience that God (for them) does NOT exist. ..... And very many other people just take as true, or at least partly true, whatever their favorite belief system's clergy tells them - no proof required. |

Personal delusions about "god" do not constitute evidence. Sorry. |

Judged: 2 2 2 (Romans 1:18-21). . .For God’s wrath is being revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who are suppressing the truth in an unrighteous way, 19 because what may be known about God is manifest among them, for God made it manifest to them. 20 For his invisible [qualities] are clearly seen from the world’s creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they are inexcusable. |

With exactly the same frequency whether they were Hindu, Christian, or any other theistic variation. Confirmation bias allows people to attribute good fortune to their gods. |

Only a fool would believe in something for which there is zero rational reason to believe in... ... and a near-infinity of rational reasons not to. As soon as you can objectively prove your gawd is a real gawd, and not some drug-induced fever-dream-god? You MIGHT have a case. |

Judged: 2 1 1 Personally? I attribute all my good fortune to my cats-- and the fact that I've almost always had cats about the place. Get a cat: it'll bring you good fortune. :D (and I have the exact same "proof" that the True Believers do, too...) |

I also have it on excellent authority* that having dogs about the place is >>almost<< as fortunate as having one or more cats. If you don't want cats? Get a dog: it'll bring you good fortune. ;) . . __________ * the exact same "authority" that True Believers use: I made it all up. |

'Certainty' based on faith is of no particular value in assessing the probability that a given belief is, in fact, true. Not that long ago, considering the length of human history, most human beings were certain that the earth was flat, stationary and the center of the universe around which the sun, moon and planets revolved. Their certainty had no correlation with the actual facts. People were certain that disease was the product of imbalance in the 4 humours, and utterly unaware of the existence of germs.
As the old Chinese proverb says: to be uncertain is uncomfortable, to be certain is ridiculous. |

The mystical experience is defined as :
"mys·ti·cism (m s t -s z m). n. 1. a. Immediate consciousness of the transcendent or ultimate reality or God." from www.thefreedictionary.com There are of course other definitions that people hold to but this "Immediate consciousness of the transcendent or ultimate reality or God." is what the mystical path is about for many in the world today including myself. What makes the narrow path of mysticism much easier today in the 2st century is our increased awareness of the universe around us. For years scientists scoffed at the idea of anything but a mechanical clockwork universe that was predictable. Today we have found that this small universe is a projection of a greater reality which, while we know it is there, it is a complete mystery and is totally unpredictable. Here is an article on the implications of the proof of Bell's theorem for all of us: http://www.plim.org/nonlocal.htm It appears that the only GOD that we have any actual proof for is the OMNIPRESENT GOD described in the Hebrew Scriptures that is at the core of the teachings of the historical Jesus. The many patriarchal god(s)of conditional love fostered by the Roman hoax of Christianity are obviously anthropomorphisms used to control and exploit the populace by a power elite with fear and hate. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Well... about that? I usually throw salt on'em. They really hate that-- the zombies I mean. Or else I sic the local Jehovah's Witnesses on the zombies-- there's a "Kingdom Hall" just up the road from me, about a mile. I send the zombies there-- where they are sure to starve, for lack of any brains to eat... |

Judged: 3 1 1 Well... the zombies are always crying "brains... braaaains....". Whereas the JW's are always crying "are you saved? are you saaaaved?" The key is to listen carefully to the slurred speech. What I'm really worried about, though? Is jehovah's witness-zombies...! Imagine it: A zombie that is not only devoid of brains (and is therefore searching for them), but also wakes you up at 7am on Saturday, banging on your door... ... and if you don't come out? Leaves a religious tract for you to read... But that only leaves the question: what would a zombie-JW's religious tract consist of? "are you saved for brains?" "are you brains for being saves?" Who knows? |
