How many other countries ban western music?

Wait a minute, the music wasn't banned, they had not followed procedures to get them approved.

From the story:
"It didn’t say that the listed songs were objectionable, just that they had not been approved for distribution.

The Chinese government carefully screens the content of imported entertainment content for political messages or commentary that runs contrary to its official line.

Foreign music acts in particular are believed to receive special scrutiny after Icelandic singer Bjork shouted “Tibet!” during a 2008 concert in Shanghai after performing a song titled “Declare Independence.”

China claims Tibet has always been part of its territory, but many Tibetans say the Himalayan region was virtually independent for centuries and that Beijing’s tight control is draining them of their culture and identity."

Does that mean if the download sites follow protocol these will be taken off the list? Maybe we'll find out, but based on the western presses way of poor follow up, I'm not holding my breath.

Like I said, enjoy your commie-land freedom.

"mandatory government screening." "The ministry said the rule was meant to preserve China’s “national cultural security.”

If it doesn't meet commie standard's, it doesn't get allowed, doesn't matter if you like it or not. Ain't nothing you can do.

Oh yes there is, go into almost any music store in China and buy it.(I even bought a copy of 7 years in Tibet here in China) or use an anonymous proxy server, which anyone that has any amount of internet sense knows about that (I use one from time to time), or ignore it.

The whole censorship and internet blocking is kind of silly here in China since it is so easy to get around. But it makes some high officials feel important. In time, they will be like Hong Kong, pretty open. Wait a minute, Hong Kong is part of China, shouldn't they be doing the same? Not under the Chinese system of one country, two governments.

But don't believe me, come over here and see all that for yourself. Don't be afraid, they won't throw you in jail unless you do something really stupid, like rob a bank. But something is just about 100% universally true, haters will rarely get out of their comfort zone of hate and would rather hate, then find out there is not much to hate.

Let's break this down: your telling me to buy illegal music/movies in China. What your saying is, come to China break it's law's, buy illegal music/movie, go to blocked sites, I wouldn't do that in my country let-a-lone another. Then I am a "hater" because I posted the part of the article you forgot to post(forgot?), so you come back with break Chinese laws, everyone else does. Your awesome. Stick to calling people childish(banter)names.

The Top 10 Celebrities Who Hate Lady Gaga
2:42 pm Tuesday Apr 20, 2010 by Caitlin Brody

We’re fascinated by Lady Gaga. But despite her numerous collaborations, leotards and intellectual pursuits, she remains a rather divisive celebrity. There are some major Gaga haters out there — including the newest member of the tribe, Grace Jones.(Not that we’re judging Grace; Gaga totally ripped off her shtick.) But there are plenty of other famous people mouthing off about the pop star who we’re surprised even know her name. After the jump, a roundup of our favorite random disses.

“I don’t think her music is that compelling, but that’s cause I listen to rock music.”– Courtney Love

“I wouldn’t want my child to watch this video. Would you? What do you think? Should these two extremely gifted female role models for millions of young girls, maybe, have given a little more thought to the effect it might have on their core audience?”– Donny Osmond [on the "Telephone" music video]

“I’d just prefer to work with someone who is more original and someone who is not copying me, actually… I really don’t think of her at all… I wouldn’t go see her.”– Grace Jones

“I’m starting to feel that people are saying I’m Lady Gaga and also that Jesse James woman. I’m starting to feel insulted,’cause I don’t want to look like either one of them.”– Marilyn Manson

“She models herself on Grace Jones and Madonna, but the music sounds like 20-year-old Ibiza music, you know? She’s not progressive, but she’s a good mimic. She sounds more like me than I fucking do!”– M.I.A.

“It’s hard for me to talk about it; I’ve seen a couple of videos of hers, and not for very long. I stop watching them each time because I don’t think there’s melodies. I’m sorry to be negative…But to me, even if it’s popular, there is a quality in the music you have to be able to appreciate. And I don’t see it. Her melodies are very conventional.”– Michel Gondry

“Lady Gaga?(I may be showing my age here but who’s Lady Gaga?). It made my teeth hurt! MY TEETH!!”– Noel Gallagher

“We have to speculate on whether she has a male member or not, or whether it’s been cut off or not…Gaga and Beyoncé gay lesbian lovers? It’s disgusting… this is poison for the minds of our kids. And our minds.”– Sandy Rios, Fox News Contributor

“Heidi [Montag]‘s a far more talented artist. Personally, I think Lady Gaga is repulsive and classless.”– Spencer Pratt

“She’s what I call a meteor — singers who entertain people for a while. Hey, there’s nothing wrong with that… She wants to entertain people. Right now, half the world is depressed and they need to be entertained. So her timing’s perfect.”– Tori Amos

I am saying you can do it, because everyone does it. What are they going to do, throw millions in jail?

Laws here are not absolute, there is so much wiggle room, that is why these laws are silly. As I said, this is being done by some over zealot official to make themselves feel important. Most people just laugh at this kind of stuff and just go on with life. The Chinese people are far more patient and understanding than people in the west. They have a right to be, after all, they went from an economic joke to 2nd in line and enjoy considerably more freedom than all of their 5,000 year history, all done in the last 30 years. Would you be willing to rock the boat to demand more?

You hate something you don't even understand. If knew about their culture, traditions, government, economic system, etc, and spent anytime here, you'd be seeing things much different. Everyone who comes to visit China says the same thing.

I used to believe a lot of things about China prior to my first visit in 2003. Within a few hours I realized that maybe some of the stuff I believed was outdated, or wrong, or lies.

So the freedom's that China has and America doesn't is from breaking the law, that's what you are saying ? If I break the law's in America would that mean America has more freedom's than China ? Are you capable of seeing what is being said here ? I like how you know every westerner, and can speak for them, I also like how you know I "hate what I don't understand", that made you look/sound really dumb, try not to do thing's like that.

I am very capable of understanding what you are saying and the contradiction it entails. However, you are putting western values in your assessment. We even break silly laws in the USA, the Chinese seem to do it more.

Yes you do hate what you do not understand. You have never been to China, you call it communist, yet they have not been communist since Mao died. You seem to think their society is restrictive. Yet I find I have more personal freedom than I did in the states. I have more choices here, an easier time to move about, I am not restricted to a few huge box stores to get the best deal, I am respected at my age (I'm 60) whereas in the states, I can't tell you all the times I was called "old man" in a disrespectful way. Every year in the states, under the penalty of fines and/or imprison I was forced, as a simple wage earner, to report things to our governments, from local to federal, things I would not divulge to my best friend.

Freedom is a lot more than the ability to stand on a soapbox, something few of us do anyway, it is the freedom of knowing I'm not being hounded by the tax man, to knowing I can walk down the street at 3am without fear. We, in the states, live under the illusion of freedom.

You have more freedom because you can go to a mom&pop store, not some huge box store ? Some kid's called you names and now you feel less free in America than in China ? What does the gov want to know about you that you wouldn't tell your best friend ? Really ?(hahaha, that's to silly to be true.) You can walk down the street at 3 am, so your free-er ? Ok, I can go to a mom&pop store or a big box store, my choice. I get called names from people in China and America, but I don't feel less free-er. I get my tax's done every yr, same question's they ask everyone else(except you), never been hounded by the tax man. I can walk down the street at any time of the night, leave my door wide open and go to town for hr's/day's and not have anything stolen. You can claim China is not a commie-land, but who rules China ? Enjoy your freedom I don't have.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Sagittarius

You're feeling ultra optimistic today, which is great for summoning up the necessary energy to do what has to be done. But don't let it go to your head and convince you that you're capable of performing miracles. If you aren't behaving in this way you'll have to cope with someone who has a swollen head and thinks they're the cat's whiskers.
