Does China really want the iPhone?

I have given my expensive quad band phone to my wife because most of the time it denies me the quad band service despite the account being in credit. Without a chinese sim card it is so unreliable that it is useless. I didn't bother to get a replacement phone and I'm enjoying the freedom. I have a sat nav which has the ability to insist it's in Chengdu when we're actually in Beijing. It does work suprisingly well a lot of the time but we can be halfway there before it kicks in.
Most of the time we just buy these toys but don't really need them.

I have a Nokia Express Music phone it's alright but next year I will probably switch to ATT and get an IPhone. I'm too cheap to pay the internet service you have to buy to use them but eventually I will get it.
