What a disgust. They should all be required to pay back the costs. If they need information, go online. There is no need to travel at all.

the cost of travel is nothing compared to what democrats will spend propping public pensions up when they fail.

Glad you had a nice sleep on other peoples dime! You probably stayed there because of Bed Bugs. Did you take the ones you brought from Ohio home ? You would have been fine with a $100.00 dollar room. Servants and THEIR ATTITUDE !!!!

I just took a trip overseas on business. I was being very frugal, yet the trip cost $5000 easy. More than half was in airline costs. For hotels, it appeared to me, my choices were very expensive and clean or cheap and dirty. Sorry I went with expensive. I would say if you are going to pick on them for the overspending. The only option is to not go on the trips all together.

This is outrageous! My husband works for a major company that operates in all 50 states and the UK. They have been very pro-active in staying a step ahead in this economy. One of the things they got rid of is conferences and travel. They are doing everything by phone. If this is how these pension officials operate in their job...who in their right minds would feel safe that they are handling their pensions? Thanks Dispatch for exposing these so-called "officials".

The reason is that these unions want the taxpayers to bail them out.... there is no way ... they still don't get it ....

Anyone that actually travels for business in NYC knows these expenses are moderate. This is a great example of the Dispatch playing to hillbilly rage. After all, if BillyBob can cram 5 of his relatives into a Motel 6 on a getaway to Findley and dine at Hometown Buffet, why can't these "fat cats" do the same? If the author had been to NYC, he'd see that the real fat cats stay at $800 a night hotels and eat $400/person dinners.

Some of these trips are probably necessary.

Others could be eliminated by reading business magazines and reading on the Internet.

They know their on a sinking ship so they're just living it up a little. I think it's good: let them run it dry. Much closer to getting rid of bloated pensions once and for all

That all depends. If you are talking about RINO's, then you are probably right. If you are talking about true Conservative Republicans, then you are wrong. It appears to me that the Republican base is systematically removing RINO's so soon there won't be enough to vote with Democrats to shore up the public pensions.

In case you were wondering, I am for letting the public pensions fail. Bad decisions made by local decision makers shouldn’t get bailed out by someone who didn’t have a say in the first place.

I don't think these travel costs are unreasonable at all. Corporate travel is often necessary and comes with a price. It's not fair to compare hotel costs in NYC, one of the most expensive cities in the US, to a Super 8 in BFE. I would like to see the travel stats for Dispatch executive and other prominent companies in Central Ohio (Chase, Limited, etc.). I think in comparison the State numbers will appear not so bad. For those who think all travel is unnecessary, I think that's too extreme if you expect the State to operate efficiently like most successful businesses. Moderation is the key and the State has cut back significantly on travel since Strickland took office. Dispatch, how about a comparison of State travel now versus previous administrations?

Wow a free vacation at retirees expence. Why not just hire Fidelity, a financial expert. I'm sure they would not charge a MILLION $$$$, for information.

Your racist rant has no place in the public discourse. Until you can refrain from over generalizing "Hillbillies", please don't post further comments.

This only proves more and more my belief that most public officials think of ME, ME, ME and not what they are supposed to think of, what can we do for the good of those we are here to serve. When will common sense start playing a role in how we are served. Fire them all!!

"Dirtpatch". Belittle those you disagree with....this tactic often works. Isn't that right "Slow No's Day".

Leo

Something will surface that either allows you to go forward or blocks your progress. Whichever way things go, take action to bring about change. If there's a blockage, then investigate the true cause as to why things are stuck. If things are unfolding well then make sure you act with clarity and determination. You can build something for the future now if you make a decisive move.
