Full story: Columbus Dispatch

When two board members of the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund jetted to New York in October for a conference on protecting investments, the pension fund made an investment of its own: more than $400 per night for each trustee to stay in a hotel that "blends old-world elegance and new-world opulence." Now I know why the Insurance for the Police and Fire is out of control for it's retired members. This is why a retired PO or firefighter has to go back to work to supplement his/her insurance. After 25 to 30 years of being in harms way , they should be able to enjoy retirement.

...said Kathy Bowman, a retired charter-school liaison who lives in Van Wert. "The big wheels are the ones taking the extravagant vacations."

I travel every week for my job. Airports, hotels, highways, etc, are by no means vacations. Eating a $41 steak happens about once a week. Does anyone know why? Because when you get to a hotel at 8pm, haven't had a good meal in 2-3 days, and don't have the energy to leave your hotel (or sometimes even leave your room), that's what a steak costs. I'm not saying some of the trips may have been unnecessary, but don't immediately think these people are joyriding around the globe like celebrities. Most of them would much rather be with their families and sleeping in their own beds. Believe me, I'm at 116 nights with Marriott so far this year.

My boss told me 5 years ago, when I started my career, the best piece of info I've heard on people who have no idea what business travel is like:

"People who think that business travel is also leisure travel, have NEVER really traveled on business."

I really enjoyed the stuff about his being able to get a read on the country's economic situation just by looking around. They lived it up and they will live it up as long as they can live it up. So would most of the suckers who paid for their living it up. AND THIS IS WHAT ALL THE POLITICIANS DO. ON OUR MONEY. And we don't do anything to stop them.

You voted these people into their positions. They misused the money for years but they are in the good ol boys system of government. I hope they take all the retirement from all of you, so we wake up in this great state of Ohio. You get what you vote for? Again, good job with economy Ted Strickland, T. Ryan, Col. Dickens, and Richard Curtis in the retirement system.

Daily Horoscope for February 13

Gemini

This is a good time to take stock of your actions and the direction you're going in. Are your efforts getting you anywhere or leading you astray and scattering your energy? If you're putting in the work but not moving forward, you're not on track. The old adage 'cut your coat according to your cloth' is good advice. Be simple and purposeful and don't waste time with things that get no practical results.
