Good News... The CCFL swap worked. I used one of the ones out of the TV I got yesterday. Whole screen lights (and stays lit) just like it should.
But still it won't power on without resetting first, won't remember any changes and it still blinks red and red and red and red. Back to square one.
But I swapped out a CCFL backlight. That was cool.
Maybe it's time to start selling LCD TV CCFLs on eBay. Nobody else sells them. I'd have that market cornered. ;)

Did I tell'ya I sold my first 6 CCFLs on eBay? Well I sold 4 actually. The guy needed 5 so I gave him an extra 2. It's all good... untill they arrived. He got about 20. They all broke in the mail :( 42" they were. Bundled all 6 together, rubber banded them about four times evenly along the length. Made four bubble-wrap "washers" and placed those evenly down length, stuck them in PVC, stuck that in a hollow round pool floaty cushion tube, surrounded that with newspaper and stuck it in a box. I think the first mistake was all 6 in one bundle touching each other. The metal ends/contacts are just a bit wider then the glass bulbs. There was just a little bit of flex/chatter near the center of the bulbs (hence the rubber bands binding the bundle in the middle (mistake 1.2?). Mistake #2 might have been the box wasn't long enough to cushion the inner tubes at either end properly. He sent me pix of the damage. They ended up breaking right at the point of one of the middle rubber bands. Glass on glass... Bad. Today we will try... One long peiece of bubble-wrap, one CCFL, rol in bubble-wrapl, another CCFL, roll again, another CCFL, roll, repeat. More PVC, More pool floaty foam, More foam peanuts, bigger better longer box. Good. ? 1000's of deals on eBay... Maybe 10,000... My second damaged shipment.

The last TV I tore down this morning, an LG42LH30 was a bit odd. It didn't have an inverter board.
Maybe it's internal. I don't know. I'll find out when I go in for the CCFLs though.
We'll keep ya posted ;)

I got my first Xbox 360 yesterday. RROD She wanted $20. I played dumb. Offered $15. Yup she said.
Partially tore down, trip to Home Depot for their 8 in 1 Torx bit set, complete tear down, high pressure dust removal, credit card-alcohol-adhesive remover-heatsink goop removal, heat gun preheat 1 min, heat gun full blast reflow 4 minutes. Cooldown and sit still 30 plus minutes.
25 to go.
Wish us luck.

Well poop. 2 reflows alone didn't do the trick. But I do believe the secondary error is different then before. Or maybe it's 'cause I didn't use flux. Or maybe 'cause I didn't fix the xbrace issue. Or maybe 'cause I don't know what I'm doing... Yet. Maybe both. Ordered an X Brace Repair Kit. Will look for some flux too. We'll keep ya posted.

The flux for my re-re-reflowing of the XBox has arrived. Kester 951 No Clean. Still waiting on my nuts bolts n washers for the x clamp fix. Might be tomarrow. There is a money makin' venture. Buy these fluxes and such by the gallon, split them up into lil' viles and charge 50 times as much per vile. Why didn't I think of that?

My $100 per pound (just a guesstimate) nuts bolts n washers came today. XBox 360 just got cooked/reflowed for the third time. Even better... I read the instructions this time ;) Very interesting... "Turn on your Xbox360. You may or may not get the three flashing red lights at this point. Either way, let the Xbox360 run until the ring of lights turns to two red lights. It will be the two left lights. At this point let the Xbox360 run for exactly two minutes then power off!!! Let your console cool down a bit so you don’t get burned on hot parts but do not let it cool all the way down. With the console still a bit warm, remove the RF board, DVD rom, AV cable, and power supply. Take the board back out of the bottom case section and do a final torque to the heatsync screws. Do not over tighten, but tighten securely. Be very careful not to allow the screwdriver to slip and gouge the board. Allow the board to cool completely. At this point, it's a good idea to go ahead and hook everything back up and test for green lights. Do not completely re‐assemble the case at this point though. Fire the system back up and if you have green lights you are good to go! Pat yourself on the back and give a quick "woohoo" if you like. If you do not have green lights at this point (which will happen 5‐10% of the time), please see below for further instructions.*** " Cooling down now. Fingers crossed. Final torque... I hope. brb

More great news... The second shipment of 6 CCFLs made it to the guy all in one (or 6) piece(s).
The bad news... The guy installed them, got the TV working, and the cracked the screen when he was putting it all back together.
I HATE WHEN THAT HAPPENS.

My first ever XBox 360 is fixed n updated n downloading apps n games as we speak.
That standard composite AV cable though has to go. The picture is pretty darn lousy.
And I'll be needing (wanting actually) a Kinnect soon. It'll be fun flicking through a NetFlix cue with a wave of a hand.

Good god... There are a BUNCH of busted up LCD TVs in the eastern region of Pennsylvania.
This could be a very profitable road trip. I'm just worried I wont have room for them all.
My "new" van will come with 3 rows of seats. I only need one. I planned on taking out the seats once I got to NY. I might need to amend my plan.

This is some freaking coll as stuff... "Remove the two resistors from RH19 & RH20 and replace them with the 15K ohm resistors. If you don't have 15K ohm resistors handy your can just hook several in series to get the required resistance. This was a spontaneous hack job, so I was just able to use what I had handy. Then connect the usb1 Data +(green wire) to the resistor leg that is closest to the Broadcom chip (RH19). Then connect the usb1 Data -(white wire) to the resistor leg that is closest to the Broadcom chip (RH20). Finally connect the ***ground/shield wire from your USB connector where the coax cable of one of the antennas is attached to the board*** <-- the lack of this prevented my setup from working. IF YOU HAVE MADE CLEAN SOLDER CONNECTIONS YOU ARE OVER 50% THERE! If not, your are going to be aggravated that the usb port is not working. Just replacing the existing resistors will show you in dmesg that you have a USB hub now!" I know what I'm gonna do with my next wrt54g. USB self serving NAS wireless access no PC needed Torrent downloading media file serving mega super sweet optillian conglomeration. I don't know why I didn't think of this (research) sooner. All I need to do is get the right version router, flash in DD-WRT, find my flux n solder (or buy more),(learn how to) pick some resisters, hack the PCB, tear down a external hard drive power supply (they have 12v AND 5v), let the burns on my fingers heal, install-format-partition-insta ll linux-opt (probably 5 times), and we are in bidness. If a "regular" old flashed wrt54g is worth $40 or so can you imagine what a sweet custom NAS capable USB drive attachable router is worth? Sweeeet. My fingers (and brain) can already feelthe burn ;)

Btw... I think I found Mom's "new" XBox. It started at $30. Dudes lil brother attempted too/couldn't fix RROD. Just console and PS... I asked if he could throw in a controller or hard drive for $30 or take less. Nope he said... Yup he said $20'll do. I remailed said cool. When where can we meet? Halfway? Nope. Come get it and it'll be $10. I'll leave it outside for you covered up. Nope I said... I'll leave you $15. It's a good day.
Btw... 3 TV panels torn down n gutted of CCFLs. Motocycle battery charged, reinstalled.(Left key on yesterday). Purring like a bit kitty. VIN number of potential van checked... Good. Loft space measured and scoped out for corrugated siding instal. Panels inventoried... 18 Attemped Xbox 360 W.O.L.... failed.
Yup. It's a good day. You too pls.
