scholarships are EARNED numb-nuts. the grants were EARNED also. not just handed out based on my kids skin color or some other goofy reason. and they're not ALWAYS gov't funded either. get a clue already, ya putz. buy 1 if you have to.
if those were not available, then they would still go to cheaper colleges just to stay out of debt. live at home and commute. there's plenty of ways to save $$ on college and not be a "mortgage" in debt right out of school.

Well I never applied for any grants or scholarships. I probably should. Anyway, no matter what community college that I applied to, I would have to have paid an out of district tuition to attend. I don't know why GRCC is considered out of district, but it is.
Since I scared my cousin out of attending Hope College, she talked me into joining her at KVCC. She hated GRCC. We both hated MCC. We both liked KVCC, so that's were we are attending.
And for those who are asking me how I scared my cousin out of attending Hope College. I scared her with the $100,000+ price tag.

C'mon BD, I didn't say they weren't "earned". If they're from the school, then it's money that's not going to the school. If you're all about paying your own way, then really it's public assistance, isn't it? If it's from some private group, sure. Personally i'm in favor of BOTH, but then I don't go around complaining about the gov't constantly and all the "leeches" that use it. Same issue with Silentrunner. He loved to complain until his check came.

Also BD, seems like common sense to make sure the public is educated and healthy. For some reason, those aren't "worthy" things on the right. If you can't afford it, tough. I'll never understand that.

The fact remains that you CAN go to college and get a good degree without starting "life" with a "mortgage" payment. Social security is something that is earned. Yiou put your $ in and when you retire you get somethimng back. Its just that its done by the gov't. If you had a retirement fund its no different except as to who runs it. With social security its run by theives and idiots that CAN'T be prosecuted for mis-management.

Bdwg, What schools did you go to? I want my kids to avoid them if you are typical of the results.

BD- I think I showed that no matter what kind of interest you attach, you NEVER equal your payout. It's a pyramid scheme. It's an entitlement program.

"I am also still on their medical insurance policy, which I need to maintain 12 credit hours in the fall & winter school term." ~ Anna
And I believe you can stay on their policy till your 25 as a full time student (21 for non students), which if you are going to go for your Bachelors degree part time while working, you will be able to take full advantage of.
One of the now available benefits to the president's new health plan.

Also -- Make sure you apply for the PELL GRANT Anna. It's not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things ($350-$450 per semester i believe?) but does help out with books, food, living expenses etc. and does not have to be paid back.
Its available to practically anyone. Check with the student financial aid office on how to get involved with the program.
Trust me, these "lean" years at college will payoff hugely in your outlook & attitude later on in life!
To this day, I can never eat another bowl of ramen noodles!! But I wouldnt have had it any other way!

Unless you are on a full scholarship ride OR plan to get your 2/4 yr. degree "part-time" while working you WILL start your path to higher learning with a virtual car payment on your credit.
And many degree curriculums will not allow you to go part time becasue of the way they are scheduled - Full time only!
Decent education does COST money.

George which shcools do they go to? eh, not an issue... keeping your kids away? why? you want your kids to conntinue an entitlement mentality? heaven forbid your kids think for themsleves, i am sure you'll do it for them. boy are they the lucky ones.
Stu car payment compared to mortgage... BIG DIFFERENCE (depending on the car/house you want). you CAN decide how you want to do this. it's all as if you think you're entitled or not.

Not "entitled",....but dont you think it should be "EASIER" for ALL kids to go to school now then "HARDER" then we we had to go?
I know I do. I have no problem kicking in a little extra into the pot if it will help send YOUR kids into a field they could excel in! Your kid's success is MICHIGANs success. And in turn the NATIONS success.
I guess I dont see where the down-side is to helping students???

Yes, I do think people should be somewhat "entitled" to an education(gasp)
It shouldn't be about who can afford it or not. It's kind of ironic that the same bunch complaining about generations of the entitled wouldn't help with their education so they won't be entitled. Of course, none of us grew up in a single parent family with no hope, either.

Bdwg, Slow down, take a breath and reread my post before answering. Then, put together a couple of coherent thoughts and then begin to type(write your response down and organize your thoughts on paper ahead of time if necessary).
