If I have to take a drug test to keep my job which in turn makes me pay taxes that go to welfare, then why shouldn't they have to take a drug test to recieve the welfare money? If you have so little money that you need to be on welfare, then you shouldn't be spending money on drugs. If you want to do drugs.... go out, get a job, and pay for them yourself!!!!
Work harder America.... people on welfare are depending you you.

If you agree with this, contact your member of Congress and tell him or her to support H.R. 3656.

H.R. 3656 would require states to administer drug tests for welfare recipients if the state has substantial evidence that an individual welfare beneficiary is abusing controlled substances.

Azure - COULD your drug use possibly be a contributing factor in your "disabililty"? Besides, if you are getting a disability check each month, then WE are basically paying for YOUR drugs, because YOUR disability money comes from OUR taxes.

I would MUCH rather pay the 10-30 dollars http://www.randomstudentdrugtesting.org/faqs.... for the drug test than the hundreds of dollars in welfare checks to a family once a month. Besides, should welfare recipients have to be tested, THEY should pay for it - no wait, that would just mean WE would be paying for it after all.

Azure - I was talking about people that take ILLEGAL drugs - you stated you do not, so, the remarks were not aimed at you. I have NO problems with my tax dollars going to people that need it, like yourself. I DO have issue with crack-addicted mothers who keep getting knocked up to stay on the welfare rolls. If that upsets you, I am sorry. I can see the confusion, because you asked if I (or anyone else on the board) would be willing to pay for YOUR testing. So, saying it like that, one would assume that you take illegal drugs. I simply stated that I would much rather pay the cost of the tests than what WELFARE recipients get. Notice, I did not say people on disability.

By the way, my mother had polio when she was young. She was in an iron lung in those days. I have degenerative disc disease, I have bursitis in both my hips, I have had ankle reconstruction surgery on one of my ankles, they want to do the other one, but no way, not going through THAT again. AND I have a hemangioma on my t-12 vertebrae. So, I know what you are going through.

Please read my previous statement again, before you go off half-cocked and start calling me names!

Seeing as how many families are abusing the system, I think it should be more than mandatory to have drug testing done on anyone who receives public asssistance. It would come out of tax dollars, however, the tax payers would be saving a lot more in the long run if the people found receiving assistance were permanently rejected from ever receiving public assistance again. I completely agree with the testing.

I ask myself all the time. I come from a small canadian community that has a huge population dependent on drugs AND the welfare system. It maddens me to know that so many people go to work every day to support these people while many of them sit around and smoke dope and gamble their cheques away. They're making fools out of us all. That money could be stripped away from them and put to other good uses, or given to other deserving families who honestly need the support.

Here is an interesting article:

Did anyone notice the poll numbers? When I took the poll there was 14% that said NO, could those people be the 14% that would lose their money due to drug abuse? 85% said yes those must be the ones that work and/or dont use drugs.

Very good point. Speaking as a visually impaired woman, who has been working full time for over ten years now, the same goes double for me.

Most of the people in the USA aren't really disable they are just to lazy to get off their fat asses and go to work. it is worth it to pay for the drug testing and the ones who are so worried about the money to pay for the drug testing are the ones that are probably on the drugs in the first place. all the dope being smoked is also probably why half of america is obese.

Half of the people on welfare will be kicked off as soon as they are drug tested so alot of money can go to the ones who really need it.

Agreed. I shouldn't have to pay for your drugs as well as your groceries, SUV, housing, medical, utilities, lawn care, 24 hour maintenance, and all the other perks of welfare. I can hear it now. Perks? Yes. The average working joe can't afford all that.

100% agree for drug testing, I am sure it will not catch all of the career welfare patrons, but there is atleast a principale in place to take away benfits.

Daily Horoscope for January 8

Leo

Why are you still fighting, Leo? Everyone else went home a long time ago, but you're still here pounding your fists on the table. Although you don't want to admit it, accepting defeat may be your most practical option at this point. Sometimes it's just easier to move on than to keep up the fight. When you're forced to restructure, at least you have a chance to redefine. YouÕl get the opportunity to start with a clean slate, so use it to your advantage.
