Whether alcohol was a factor or not, I am sorry for the families loss. It says the driver was passing over double yellow lines. It wasn't smart of him and it sounds like he was being a little wreckless, however it's still tragic. Too often lives are cut short on the highways. It's important to be patient when we are driving on the highways. Some people drive slower than others and we just need to wait for passing lanes and pass them. Don't get angry or frustrated, there isn't anything we should be that much in a hurry for(i know there are circumstances like someone in the backseat and your trying to get them to a hospital, or someone is in trouble and your trying to get to them so you can help), but how much good are you doing if you never make it there? Just drive safely. Try and plan ahead for road construction, bathroom breaks, or other things that might pop up, and don't get angry at other drivers because they aren't going as fast as you want them to.

I agree completely with KRIS!!! Life is too short to take risks on the highway. May they rest in peace!

What you say above is true but those who need to know this are not going to bother with it.
On a busy weekend like this there will be all types of stupid drivers on the road, people will die. Unfortunate but also true. Sad. |

i totaly agree with kris as well. its just not worth it and i might add rest in peace to those poor soals who passed no matter the cause its always sad even if they were were impared in some way :(

When you do not follow the "rules of the road", this is what CAN happen - passengers and other motorists CAN die too! Sad.

For once, every post here so far is correct.
Rest in Peace. |

While I always acknowledge the dangers of driving slowly, the double yellow is there for a reason.

Poor 17yr old girl, so sad for her family. I could care less about the idiot driver. I was almost hit this year by an a$$ like him crossing the double yellow.
|

Speed kills on these roads up here, people need to learn some patience when driving here or anywhere else for that matter.
There's a good reason for those double yellow lines they mean "Don't pass here" it's dangerous to do so, Josh found out the hard way, this is what the CHP privately refer to as one of those "HUA" accidents. |

What a sad and unfortunate way to lose a life. The really sad thing is the driver probably believed he had a "big" truck and oncoming traffic would steer clear of him.
Ladies, Gentlement, and young teens alike, follow the rules of the road. There are very few things in life that require such reckless driving behavior. Take your time and you'll get there. Plus, speeding wears thin on the gas mileage too. |
||||
|
Hey sheeple, could it be possible the truck pulled into the shoulder to allow faster traffic to get by?
Guess what? I have opined endlessly that Caltrans solution to by-passing only the Confusion Hill slide was a waste of $77 million dollars because they could have applied that money to building the new, SAFER, higway alignment on the other side of the river. This accident could have been avoided had Caltrans programed and financed the highway realignment on the other side of the river. Caltrans was informed in 1987 of simple means to reduce traffic deaths on the expressway between Eureka and Arcata. Caltrans blew those recommendations off. 14 years and at least 24 deaths later Caltrans still refused to budge until they were shamed, literally shamed into establishing the safety corridor. How many more people will have to die between Leggett and Caltran's worthless $77 million dollar monstrosity before Caltrans is shamed into doing the right thing? |

"They died after being ejected from their Dodgr 3500 pickup truckl". Many will survive this weekend if only for clicking of that seatbelt...
|
||||
Well, this proves you are the loon that got canned from your cushy Cal-Trans job. And how incompetent do you have to be to get canned from Cal-Trans? Do you have a cost estimate on the new alignment? And who would pay? The slide bypass came from federal dollars. Your "solution" represents no solution at all, just more sour grapes from a disgruntled ex-employee. |

Another clean,nice opinion obliterated by the moderator(again).Why do people always have to be "first" in their driving?Fernbridge to Ferndale,speed limit 55mph in a farming community is a classic example with little enforcement.some drivers just HAVE to pass,regardless.My condolences to the family(s).This accident was avoidable,and sad to see those who died were so young.I apologize to the moderator that my comments to the forum are not rife with the usual B.S. that is regularly posted.

Deaths can be avoided by people driving carefully, period. The idea that it could have been avoided by this or that Caltrans project is absolutely bullcrap. Sorry, but building "dummy-safe" roads is a facile answer.

Why would any family members be reading this stuff? No way, they are going to be very busy with important things.
They are not going to be sitting at a computer reading posts. |

Except for #4 posting. |

To the family- My thoughts are with you. It is so tragic. If we could only go back and change that one decision and get them back but we can not. I think you have to try to think that they are in a better place now and even if they could come back they would not want to. My niece was murdered last year and I was told by another murder victims mother what I just told you. At first I thought,"Yeah, right." but as I thought about it and months later, I seem to get some comfort from it and to think about the possibility. I hope it is true. I hope it may bring some comfort for your family too. Again, I am so sorry, they had their whole lives ahead of them. All the things that could have been. It is a great loss. Peace be with you.

Bull-scat. When it happened to our family, we read every article, every comment. It concerns your loved one and you want to know what is being said. That is how it is for me anyway. Yeah, you do the important things but you need the down time too. Of course we are dealing with a murder but the pain of the loss of the loved one is still the same. Justice for Katlyn!!!!!!!! |
