Youth show unity

Standing on the bridge that spans the Codorus Creek on West College Avenue in York, Sharon Schaad wiped away tears rolling down her cheeks as she placed a rose in memory of her father, Henry Schaad.

Isn't it funny after all these years how the facts get twisted and we're supposed "love" people of color no matter WHAT they do, in the name of diversity? Isn't "diversity" nothing more than simply "winking" at what we know (deep down) is WRONG? Henry Schaad & Lillie Belle Allen? Henry Schaad was doing his job. Lillie Belle Allen was somewhere that she shouldn't have been. Besides, if all these bleeding heart Unity Marchers are gonna practice "diversity", shouldn't that apply to actions towards Jim Grove as well? Works BOTH ways, people, no matter WHAT color you are.

"Stephanie Seaton, director of the human relations commission, said the march is an opportunity to educate people about diversity. "

AKA.... Diversity = anybody but white males. How diverse is that..? I'll submit that its often blacks that need to learn about diversity.. how many hispanics are on the NCCAP's staff? or white males for that matter? Irish, German, Portuguese.. all vastly different, but hardly included in "Diversity" What a crock. Obama voters.. YOU need diversity training.. 92% of blacks voting for him.. shows lack of understanding and education.

Isn't it funny how Jesse Jackson can't even get it right much less Al Sharpton, Jeremiah Wright or Louis Farrakhan. DIVERSITY!!?? Get real; the hatred towards WHITIE among these individuals runs so thick you could cut it with a knife, wouldn't you agree Michelle Obama? The bottom line is, BLACKS will NEVER let go of racism because the are benefiting too much by keeping it alive.

If your parents are racist you are racist.

You can march all day long you wont solve a thing.

Meanwhile, the elected officials that were "marching" should have been WORKING.

We are being fleeced by liberals.

The four comments above are EXACTLY why we need to promote events that encourage diversity. Perhaps Dave, LoveeHereYee and Computer Steve could take a lesson from the young march participants?

Jim Grove promotes intolerance, fear and hate, as far as I am concerned. Sure, he is entitled to his opinion. But his little protests have terrified my young daughter on more than one occasion. There is a time and place, and there is a way to do things that get your message across without causing people pain. Grove apparently has no interest in considering the feelings of the people he opposes.

Kristi,

Stop marching and move on already. I treat everyone the way I want to be treated. I am not a racist. No march would influence me to treat other people differently.

It is a waste of money and resources. The police should be patrolling the streets not blocking traffic.

The elected officials should be working, not marching.

"Promoting Diversity" is a foolish statement. If you think that a march down Newberry Street is going to make some backward moron change his/her opinion then you are just as foolish as they are.

You are all wrong on your assessment of this march. Just because I oppose the event does not make me a racist. You need to open your eyes and grow up and be responsible. Teach your daughter the difference between right and wrong, and leave lock-step-marches to the loons.

I couldn't agree more. Have any of these diversity marches or love fests converted anyone? Has an individual filled with generations of hate seen these young people marching in the streets and thought "Golly Gee, I think I have it all wrong. I shall change my outlook immediately". Of course not. Again, it's nothing but feel good liberalism. Style over substance. You want to get rid of racism? Then work from the outside in. Nobody likes someone who's a criminal and living off the welfare state.

Very well stated, Steve. It's nice to know that I, by my opposition to this absurd event as well as Kristi's views, that I'm "discouraging diversity." As Andy Rooney once said " I have the right 'NOT' to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or piss me off."

Boy, you people are sad. I did not ONCE call Computer Steve a racist. Not once. He brought that up, so maybe he realizes that he is one?

You really made a strong point, though, Computer Steve. Your own comments make it clear that these efforts will never make a "backward moron" change his opinion.

Events like this march can set a positive example for young people who are forming their opinions and figuring out where they fit in this world. A march can't change the world, but seeing strong, smart, responsible adults taking a stand for what is right CAN help young people make better choices.

But clearly this is lost on some people in this forum.

That's the problem, Kristi, and YOU absolutely pointed it out......."seeing strong, smart, responsible adults taking a stand for what is right CAN help young people make better choices." I see the "illusion" of this mentality for ONE DAY and hatred towards WHITIE for the rest of the year. as Steve said "teach your daughter the difference between right and wrong, and leave lock-step-marches to the loons." It doesn't take a village, Kristi.

It's really really sad, to me, that something so well intended and positive as a UNITY march, can
bring out so much negativity.

Just to set the record straight, Andy Rooney NEVER said that. Somebody else wrote it and put his name on it. In fact, he has expressed several times that if he could track down the person who did it, he would sue him.

The only way to get rid of racism and biased statements is to get rid of this website.

So funny when people preface there racist and insensitive statements by saying "I'm not a racist", only to follow-up with saying something racist.

Maybe PeeWee was thinking about the days when an attendant actually pumped the gas for you and you paid him...before the "Pumpityourself" days. He/she stayed by your window till you paid him/her. They also cleaned your windows, checked your oil and your tires. I think the last station to do that around York was Lincoln Highway Garage.
