inorout- you are correct, this could have been avoided. If the man would not have pulled a knife on the officers he would probably been home in another 10 minutes. Police are trained to repond to deadly force with deadly force. Luckily the officers survived this one. Local law enforcement hasn't been so lucky in the last few years.

<quoted text>Regardless of how many people the police have arrested for breaking the law, it's not okay to shoot a man four times when it could have been avoided. Aren't the police trained in a manner that doesn't end in one's death?

Due to these statistics and other reports that demonstrate
the history of zealousness by Law Enforcement in Yolo
County is the reason such organizations like ours can not
sit on the sidelines and witness injustice continue. It's
a sad state of affairs when in the land of the free, in
the most progressive State(CA) in the union. We still
treat people differently because of the color if their
skin or land of origin. How many people of color must
die on foreign lands so that their family members can
enjoy the fruits of their sacrifice. Nobody especially
here in America deserves to live in fear for being
whom God created them to be. The good respectful people
of Yolo County deserve better then a 50/50 chance of
being arrested for being innocent. This is still
"America the brights star on this planet, of hope and
freedom, let's return it to the good citizens of Yolo
County.

Yeah, I miss mine too. San Diego police shot about 50 bullets at his car a couple of years ago, after he fired a bb gun at them. I'm sure it was race motivated though. <-sarcasm, in case you missed it.

Wake up people! Take some responsibility for your actions. Everything you do has a consequence, whether good or bad, big or small. While you cannot completely control what happens around you, you can influence it a great deal. Stop acting like you're entitled to do what you want and not face a consequence.

Secondly, a lot of posters here seem to be missing this new magic trick, called common sense. Now I don't have ALL the fact, but let me draw a couple points of reason using a few assumptions...

Assuming the officers were undercover - they would not carry tasers! That would give away that they were officers. How many actual (or assumed) gang members carry tasers?

Assuming the young man drew a knife - not only do police officers have the right to terminate his life, you would too. We all have the right to LIFE, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. The first law of nature is self-preservation, you do have a right to defend yourself.

Bottom line, "shyte" like this sucks. Really. But aside from the fact that one person will not see tomorrow, the worst things I see coming out from this are the idiotic, irrational, quick-to-play-the-race-card who want to blame the police, AND the other side ("one less gang member") celebrating in this.

The Rodney King case proves that there are dirty officers, but that doesn't mean they all are. Because that would be no different than assuming all kids wearing baggy clothes with a slightly off-center baseball cap are gang members. Is that true?

Questions on this case continue to surface and they are hard questions that go beyond "cops vs. gang members".

This case is still unresolved officially. Why?

If the shooting was justified why hasn't that been determined yet?

Why is it taking so long?

If there is a question about the validity of the shooting why are these officers still on the street?

Is this a cover-up?

Is the county hoping people will forget this if enough time goes by?

Just asking the hard questions and hoping for real answers.
My guess is

My guess is that the investigating agencies are kicking the hard questions to a higher agency because they don't want to be the ones to disclose the truth???

Still waiting for answers...

It's only been five and a half months. If the Yolo deputies were justified why is it talking nearly half a year to announce that conclusion?

It doesn't appear that this was a "simple shooting" of a dangerous man with a knife by officers in fear of their lives. I'm just saying that if it were that simple then why has it taken so long to say that?

And why aren't the residents of the Woodland community more concerned?

The guy was a drugie who had a knife and threaten the police with it. If you were in you house, someone broke in and had a knife and was threatening you, would you shoot them? I would. The guy was burden to society. So he can go around causing problems but people like you always take his side

Time for the editor of the of the Woodland Daily Democrat to write another editorial holding the investigating agencies' feet to the fire. Need to keep the public's attention focused on this.

I agree. We do need to keep the public in on this. We especially need the keep the low life gang bangers in on this too, so they know what will and should happen to them if they attack a police officer. They deserve to be shot, just like this guy. I praise and thank the officers involved.

Last time I checked the three deputies involved are all different ethnic races. I think two were reported to be Latino. Stop pulling the race card. You are a person that causes problems rather than fixing them. God Bless our troops Airborne!

City Manager Mark Devon in Woodland should take the 10% pay increase he gave the police chief to oversee the Parks and Recreation Senior Center and put the police chief back on crime for 100% of his time at his regular pay. Then he could take that extra 10% and out it toward the Cops/Kids officers programs in our schools.

We need PREVENTION strategies with law enforcement, youth and educators working together. THAT is the "task force" that is needed. Adult gang bangers are not allowed to leave the gang. By then it is too late. Prevention is our only hope.

Don't blame Sheriff Prieto. Blame the Woodland police chief, the highest paid department head in the entire city, who would rather get paid even MORE of our tax dollars for planning YOGA CLASSES.

Tell the City Manager to get real. Put the police chief back on crime and make him start a "Gang PREVENTION Task Force."

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Taurus

The current planetary influences tend to make everyone groan a bit. Life is not perfect and may be less pleasant than usual, but what can you do? Get real for one thing! That's the way it is and once you accept this, everything becomes much easier to handle. Be solid and dutiful - qualities for which the Bull is renowned - and you'll come out the other side with your halo polished. Focus on some undeveloped potential in your life and take the first steps towards realising it.
