"its pioneering academic programs that produce students with a passion for social activism."
Well that's one way to sugar-coat it.

It's a fact. Too bad you are too blind or ignorant or hateful to see it.

Yes, Horace Mann required a great deal of sugarcoating (no need for the hyphen: "Be ashamed to die until you win some victory for humanity."

If ignorance is bliss, you must be one very happy person.

Oh my claire ross; seems like someone so pious would be more careful with their punctuation. You forgot to close your parenthesis. And the quote is “...where ignorance is bliss, ‘Tis folly to be wise “ from Thomas Gray’s “Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College”. Probably the only time Eton College and Antioch Unversity will ever be mentioned in the same discussion.

This might become what Ohio needs. An institution ready to equip individuals to become teachers in local schools. These would be men and women ready to use existing structures and existing technology to link the formal learning and personal development of children and youth with the knowledge, wisdom and isight already held by vast numbers of adults, local enterprises and institutions. The ingredients already exist, it is indiviudals with these capabilities that Ohio needs desparately.

"Social activism" is just a pretty way of saying "socialism."

Anytime you hear these words, or "social justice," what you really are hearing is an attempt to justify taking from the productive, and giving it to someone who did not earn it.

And, to preempt potential attacks, know this: my comments are not born out of hatred or ignorance. The fact is, institutions like Antioch are largely responsible for the total hijacking of our education system, and the insidious political correctness, moral relativism and attacks on capitalism that we are facing today.

There was a time in America when right was right, wrong was wrong, hard work was rewarded and no one hated the success of others -- or blamed them for their own misfortunes. Places like Antioch changed all that; one class, one sit-in and one student at a time. I sincerely hope this bastion of Socialism never, ever gets off the ground. We do NOT need this college and its America-hating lemmings.

Finally, did it ever occur to anyone that the college failed because it offered a product that not enough consumers wanted? The market spoke; Antioch failed. How richly ironic that Antioch was felled by the very system it despises. Viva capitalism and free markets!

thanks for editing info!(I'll be more cautious)

With the expanded quote, you make an even better point to the original poster...it would indeed be foolish to be wise around someone such as that, don't you think?

I don't know why Eton and Antioch would be mentioned much together; one is progressive in the US, the other rather, um, retro to say the least, in the UK so I'm not sure I understand where you are going with that.

I firmly believe a number of individuals are ignorant of the potential and what a school like antioch has done for society. I for one am a FT mom, employee, grad student, community coordinator and activist. It can all be done and I was a product of a school very similar to Antioch. My question to you ignorant people that have commented is what have you done for your community other than log into these sites and complain about what is not being done? I would take a hard look in the mirror once in a while. I appreciated going to this kind of liberal school for my education I wasnt confined to boxed thoughts and actually learned more and efficiently by going to a non traditional school. How many kids flunk out of OSU each year?? and graduate knowing little? It works both ways folks.

OH my I love the irony in this guys comments! You are ignorant to exactly the number of schools that are in the states that are exactly like Antioch or modeled after them. I would take a hard look at them and do your own studies to see what products have come out of them you may just be very well surprised.

I don't know where to begin with your comments...social justice is obviously something about which you know little or nothing. You appear to have no understanding of the incredible place in history of Antioch, especially as it relates to the educational opportunities. There was a time in America when "right was right"??? When may that have been? When women could not attend universities? Blacks? If your comments are not born out of your ignorance, can you explain their origins? They have nothing to do with facts.

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Pisces

You have a one track mind today, dear Pisces, and it's running along very ambitious lines, absolutely determined to achieve something you've been attempting for ages. Can you be so committed that you're prepared to let everything else go by the wayside for the time being? That's great, but don't become obsessive about it.
