Can anyone explain to me why this poll was a good idea? The Y.C. News is a private business and NOT supported by taxpayer money.

What happened to the paper? If it wasn't for the correspondents there would be no news.

Yes, we are a small town but we should be able to pay 75 cents for a newspaper that spans a week and get more than what we do. What I have noticed is rewritten news releases with the reporter's name on the byline. Editorials that have no bearing on state or local events and advertising rates that have skyrocketed to a place that makes it hard to justify to any expense account. When you have a whole week to present a product, wouldn't you think it would be one you could count on as being good? I buy it every week hoping.

The subtlety of an insult tends to fade when one misspells and or inserts an odd word to it.

I'm guilty of that myself.

You really don't want much, do you Angel? The paper is supposed to be a professional item, otherwise why would people pay to advertise in it? It is not a high school publication. Even that would have a proof reader that wouldn't allow the misspellings and sentence structures that are allowed in the YC News.

From the outside looking in,I have to wonder why this site is even allowed. It seems to be that only negative comments are posted. What happened to all the positive people of Woodson County? The paper is what it is, a tool of communication in a small town. The articles are written with correct form...if you knew anything about journalism. One has to wonder if it is because toes have been stepped upon a time or two. Isn't that the point of a paper to raise public awareness? Whether or not,one agrees or disagrees, people in the communities are starting to pay attention as to what is happening in the community...we can only hope a positive attitudes will not be too far behind!

One has to wonder whom you are related to at the newspaper. ISP's can be changed even if you are posting from a cable company. One just has to know how to do it. You did not post your name so one can conclude that you would be recognized if you did so.

If the editor cares he might take a step back and try to see what the public is asking for.

Topix has become a tool that coffee shops used to be known for in the not too distant past. Just a different group of people using it with no way to trace the roots of what is said. People hide behind an alias to say things they normally would not.

I believe the majority of people are still positive about this subject and many more. Whatever the motive the author of this poll had, it has become a discussion... pretty or not.

I do not always agree with the way the paper's articles are written, such as : no proofreading, names misspelled, etc., but I think overall the paper is worth what we pay for it. Since the internet is affordable and the news media reports on things live almost before they happen, we still need our hometown newspaper to catch up on the happenings in our own community. The national news media are not going to cover events such as: Mardi Grass, births, deaths of local citizens, who visited whom in the nursing home or who had a gathering of folks for a party or just visiting. The Y C News with all of it's faults is still worth reading every week, if only to see if your name is in it and what for. When the small local weeklys all go away, we will have lost a BIG part of who we are.

Hello all, thank you mrinformation for starting this poll, any publicity is good publicity. We try very hard at the NEWS to provide a quality product. I do all the proofreading so you may blame me for typos and such. I do find it amusing that no one on this site who chooses to take stabs at other folks has the guts to stand behind their convictions by using their real names, such as I have done. Thanks to all of you who choose to read the paper, we appreciate each and every one of you, and will continue to try hard to deliver your hometown news. In this profession, when you make a mistake everyone gets to see (and comment) on it.
