How about instead of this program, we fund the youth who are legally here. Those whose parents have lost jobs in the recession, or whose families have lost their home and savings and have no means to send their children to school. If I had a vote on the issue: Not one cent for any illegal.other than for return trip to home country.

Time and time again our history has shown us that America is the greatest country on earth. Whenever times were hard for its people, America has come through with flying colors, simply because in America there exists an unwritten and expected duty that we help those in need, especially those who are helpless and want to do something for this great nation. This time has come again, and America will come through. America will show its most humble grace and grant these children their dream. In the words of the great MLK "Now, I say to you today my friends, even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream. It is a dream deeply rooted in the American dream. I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed:-'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal."

All men are created equal as long as they stay in their country legally and don't tread on mine! If you love them so much, there are millions in your state of CA....adopt a few!

The "dream" program should be put where it belongs, the trash can. If the parents are illegals, then the kids should be as well.

What about kids like me who applied for residency, but aged out of the paperwork? The dream act is my only way to be legal and use my degree that I earned while going to school and working my own way, with no help from the state or the country. And you know what, I have also payed my amount of taxes throughout the years I have been here! So please stop being so ignorant and learn what this bill is about.

What about those kids of citizens who cant afford to go at all, why dont they get the same breaks, why should you be special? And also why should we pass a bill thats a backdoor amnesty, if you know the bill you know what im talking about.

"Not one cent for any illegal.other than for return trip to home country. " The kids who would benefit from the DREAM Act would give money to the schools, and increase tax revenues. Financial Aid would not be available, so how exactly is the DREAM Act spending American taxpayer money?

You people need to put yourself in the place of these kids who come here even before the age of reasoning because their parents were desperate, many escaping violence, hunger, poverty.. I'm not advocating illegal immigration, don't get me wrong, but the way you people speak is so full of hatred. You can't choose where you're born. Neither can you make these decisions as a child. Put yourself in their skin. For many, America is the only country they know. They're not asking for a free ride, they're asking for a possible path, which right now is inexistant.

If they want to make it about the kids, than do it. But i would suggest reading the bill a bit more closely. Stuffed in the bill is a backdoor amnesty for the parents of these kids. Make it about the kids than it will have a chance, but dont try and stuff the parents into the bill as well.

Well then blame your parents. Nobody forced them to have children just for the propose of getting freebies.

none of you have even read the bill have you?.. backdoor amnesty?.. for these kids to get citizenship it will take over 6 years.. add that to the years it takes to graduate college or finish in the military... then add that to the paperwork process... by the time they can legalize their parents, they will be 90 years old! or dead most likely.. this forum is full of so many un-educated hatred, borderline racist... i bet all you hate barack obama too...

I hope this Dream Act fails. We need to be implementing measures that deter people from migrating here illegally. This Dream Act does the opposite. It provides a very large and tempting incentive for illegal aliens to come here. Most illegal aliens come here for their children's sake. Why are you going to let the children benefit for the parent's wrongdoing? What then are you supposed to say to those decent individuals who spent the time and money to bring their kids legally? That they were suckers who wasted their time? Also, this article mentions a Jamaican girl who came here at age 2 and didn't realize that she was an illegal alien until after college. That is hard to believe; almost impossible. So you're telling me that for 20 years the girl never questioned her parents on why she couldn't travel? She never asked her father why he couldn't get a driver's license? She never asked for her Social Security number? And just so you know - an illegal alien under 18 1/2 years old can leave the country and immediately apply to come here legally. They hold nothing against you until you are over 18 1/2. Once you stay after 18 1/2, you need to be held accountable for staying here illegally.

In case you all haven't heard, colleges and universities are admitting fewer and fewer students each year. How is it fair that Legal Citizen Children of Long Time Legal Citizen Taxpaying Americans, will have to compete with the spawn of ILLEGALS for the fewer number of openings in the institutions of higher learning in their OWN NATIVE COUNTRY??? And don't tell me that preference wouldn't be given to those of certain ethnic backgrounds too, just so the schools would have the "correct" diverse "mix".

Round them up, and bus them back to where ever they escaped from. Why not stay at home and make your own 3rd. world country better? Just because you conceive every time you spread your legs does not make the citizens of the USA responsible for housing, feeding and schooling your offspring.
