A Kent County movie theater is a step closer to getting its liquor license. Wyoming's city council approved the license application for the Studio 28 Multiplex on 28th St.

Why would someone want to drink beer at the movies? I think that will open a can of worms.

We have already made the decision that we will no longer go to Studio 28. I don't see the need for it and I'm not going to frequent their business.

Why is it necessary to drink at the movies? Aren't there enough places to drink? If drinking is allowed at the movies, there should be a late hour "adults only" movie. Children should not be subjected to this ridiculous idea. As it stands, I and numerous others will not be attending movies at Studio 28. There are many other theaters that do not have such trashy ideas.

I thought it was a bad idea thinking of all the things it would cause...
People leaving the theater drunk, Being obnoxious and disruptive, Walking to and from seats constantly for bathroom, smoking, and more beer, Theater smelling like a brewery, People buying beer for minors in dark theater A ballgame...yes! A theater...absolutely not! Ticket prices are bad enough. What a goofy idea. |

Beer at the movies? Good idea with all of the stinkers coming out lately. The movies might be a fun experience again.

I don't understand the point of selling beer and wine at the movies??
Is that a new way of them trying to drum up business for that theater. I don't think it is that popular anymore especially with all the other theaters around. It sounds like a crazy idea. Have they even thought of the policing they will have to do to control those theaters?? |

How are they going to control under age drinking? Yes they will check ID's when someone buys the beer, but who is going to see what's going on in the dark theater after the movie starts? Who's going to stop the ones that will buy for their under age buddies? Yeah, this sounds like a safe idea to me.

2 words.... BIG MISTAKE!
i agree with neecer on this one. |

First off I totally agree that this is a bad idea. No good can come from it. But what other theatres are there? Loekes has bought the one at Rivertown and the one at Woodland, right? They are changing names today I think. Did he purchase the one on Beltline/Kanpp too? That leaves us with not too many other places to watch a movie for people in the city. |

Loekes already owns the one at Knapp and the Beltline, it's just one of the brothers. Studio 28 tried to block the Celebration Cinema from going in at Knapp when it was first announced. They were afraid it would take away business from Studio 28. I use to go to that one all the time when I lived up in Rockford. It was closer than Studio, and Studio seems to cater to thugs and what not in Wyoming now. After dark, I didn't feel safe taking my family there. Plus, Knapp has the IMAX in town.
Now Celebration South off of Kalamazoo by M-6 will get my business, they don't serve alcohol and seem more family friendly. I know of a bunch of us that will no longer frequent Studio 28. I hope getting the liquor license to "bring in more people" was worth the loss of customers for them. |

What a total bunch of idiots

Studio 28 has gone downhill in the last 10 years anyways. If you dont know what I am talking about, go see a movie past 8pm.

I can't see the point in having beer in a theatre either. Would it only be allowed in adult movies (R...maybe PG-13)? Are people going to be sipping a Bud Light while watching Bambi-type shows? It justs seems sort of strange. Do they do this in other parts of the country?
I agree with everyone else......how are you going to ensure that an older friend isn't buying for his/her younger friends? I know that underage drinking goes on, but at least at restaurants and bars they are in daylight so that they might think twice about it. A dark theatre would be quite tempting to many, I am guessing. And then they will be hopping into their cars to drink home......great. |

That was supposed to be DRIVE home, possibly drunk.

This is going to turn out like that incident at the Allegan County B-93 Bash. People got drunk--went on the highway--got killed. No alcohol at the next B-93 bash. A bunch of drunks are going to leave the movies. Get on the road--kill people--bingo no more drinking at the movies!

I can see the pluses and minuses here...
The plus being that as an adult, I dont mind sitting down to a good movie and having a drink or two. And being able to do that at a theater while watchign the latest flik does sound pretty cool. But- I can see how it can get completely taken advantage of. From kids getting thier hands on beer in a dark theater to kids who are serving the beer to their friends. Most of the people serving at the concession stands are by far minors themselves... and I would be hesitant about the legitimacy of their promise to play, ie- serve- by the rules. And also, just like any other alcohol serving establishment, I would worry about drunk driving. Though, I can see someone sitting around all day drinking (like the BDay bash accident mentioned above) is by far more dangerous than 1 or 2 drinks in a 1.5 hour time span. So I could go either way on this... |
|
|
Not to mention they may have been sitting around at home or the bar all day and decide to go to a movie--because hey--guess what? They can continue on!!!

This is garbage. Studio 28 has been the worst theater in the area for years. It does cater to thugs and when you try to tell them to be quiet you get called alot of really bad names. Adding alcohol to the mix is not going to help them improve their image at all. It could be a devistating move for alot of people. I wish them luck but I will not be bringing my 2 small children there to see a movie or learn the newest swear words from all the teenagers that just hang out and make the movie experience horrible for the rest of us. NO THANK YOU!

wow you people went ape crazy...first off I highly doubt they will allow alcohol into a movie with people under age...FIRST off ITS ILLEGAL anyone with half a brain would know it would be for rated R movie's only after 6Pm where no childen are allowed REGARDLESS, and as a pure business move it makes logical sense, and I see other movie theater's following suite, and the sad thing is 19 people have whined and complained on this post and the same 19 people that whine and complained about this prolly whined about casino's in michigan prolly complained about the Down Town Project..the same people (which is all of you) are whats keeping Michigan in the gutter and letting every other state advance beyond us. WAKE UP!
