Yes, but "back in the day" we did recite the pledge of alegiance in public schools. What to that "old timer?"

I graduated from H.S. in 71. We did open with the Pledge of Aliegience and prayer was allowed in class but not mandated. When I was in the 3rd grade in Sacramento, the entire class prayed because John F. Kennedy had just been assassinated. It was broadcase on T.V. right in the classroom. Between the crying and sadness, we all prayed. Nobody complained.

note the states he was a teacher in.. not california. in the schools i went to we had prayers at assemblies, graduation and other events, not daily prayers. the pledge was done in th ehomeroom class first class of the day.
