Should a fireman from Taylors Island fire department that has pleaded guilty to a DUI still be permitted to remain on or in the fire department?

Was the fireman on duty and driving a fire truck when the offense occured?
If not and it was during his personal time it has nothing to do with his capability to carry out his duties and responsibilities as a fireman. It sounds more like the witchhunt that has been discussed to death in newszap between a neighbor and the fire department and this fireman got caught in the line of crossfire. |

Would you not be concerned about this firemans poor judgement? I sure would. If he can't control his personal drinking problem to the point he gets a dui then I would be very concerned when this person's judgement may effect him in a life and death saving matter.

One mistake and you want to hang the person by their shortstrings. I wonder how many citizens calling for this persons head have driven after they have drank themselves.

Thats drifting off the specific issue here. The topic is about a certain fireman that pleaded guilty to drunk driving not other citizens that have nothing to do with this crime. |

You stated "If he can't control his personal drinking problem to the point he gets a dui"
You are stating that because he got a DUI he has a drinking problem, and shouldn't be trusted. I also asked if this DUI occured while he was acting in his role as a fireman and no one responded. So AGAIN.... Did this DUI occur while he was performing his duties as a fireman,(a volunteer fireman at that)? |

That makes no difference. If a police officer thats off duty gets a dui or arrested as drunk he usually looses his job so what should make a firemans job any different or special. There have also been several cases where a mayor of a town got a DUI and was forced to resign as well as several other officals. They are trusted by the public to protect the general public and being a drunk is not protecting the public, its in fact, endangering everyone.

I will say if the fire alarm went off he would not be able to put out the fire. He would not be able to perform his volunteer duties.
