I also think the police need some training on how to react around dogs. If you run, a dog will take chase! And if you corner a hurt dog, it will bite. This is Dog 101 and has nothing to do with the breed.

2 Plain and simple, how many people have Labradors killed? I would shoot a pit bull before waiting to see if it was going to bite as well. Last time I checked a six month old pit bull had teeth. Both of these dogs shot in the last month were running free outside of their yard. Owners need to take responsibility for their pets, and owners need to pay the vet bills as well. |

1 Police should definitely pay medical, and carry pepper spray for when they feel "threatened" by a puppy. Or any dog. Deadly force is for criminals, not pets. |

1 The 2nd guy is an idiot and his dog paid the price. He should have never taken the dog off leash! Plain and Simple ALL DOGS HAVE TEETH AND CAN BITE. Not too long ago a lab puppy ripped apart a baby, killing it while the mother and grandmother slept. Don't tell me Labs don't kill. It just doesn't make national news like pitbulls, rotties and shepards. Here is a site listing other breeds that have bitten people: http://www.understand-a-bull.com/Articles/Oth... I will agree that people need to be more responsible for there pets. |

1 I agree 100%. Because of the media, these dogs got a bad rep. Wouldn't it be easier to carry a dog spray and use that instead of shooting it. What would have happened if the son would have gotten hit by a bullet?? They always over-react. |

1 Saying its ok to shoot a pit bull because they have a bad rep is like saying its ok for the cops to indiscriminately shoot black people because they have a bad rep. its wrong to shoot a family pet thats protecting its property the cop shouldnt have been running down that alleyway its the dogs job to protect its owner. this lady needs to sue the police and what if the child would have been shot would that be ok too? |

I think just recently there was a mayor in maryland named cheye calvo that had a pair of labs killed by police by accident. I could be wrong on that one though. |

1 If my Pitt charged toward a cop and they shot her I would be sad and upset but a cops life is worth more that a dogs life. Pitt owners need to keep better control over their dog because of the bad rap that the dog has. |

Where in the article does it state that the officer "knocked it loose". People add all sorts of falsehoods to make their point. If a dog is coming at me, "dog gone". |

1 According to the news the dog was in a fenced in area. The cops need to stop shooting dogs for no reason and the maker of the fence should be made to pay the vet bill. The fence didn;t do it's job. |

John Doe, learn to read, the dog got out of the fenced in area and was chasing after the officer. If your fence can't contain a dog, fix your fence or risk the consequences.'The officer knocked it loose' quoted above is a BS excuse. A gate should be secured from YOUR side if you keep a dog. If you know you have a loose gate, fix it or your dog may get shot (or run over in the street). Plain and simple. All you idiots should take some responsibility!! |

Only if the kid was black, then yes, it would be ok. |
||||
ha...why should I take both of my pits in the house just because somebody is outside my house?? It is the responsiblity of a pit bull owner to educate people on the breed instead of shielding them. Maybe you should also get some education on pit bulls. First thing is they are not human aggresive, but rather submissive to humans. They, just like any other dog, are trained to be aggressive towards humans. So just because a pit is chasing you, doesn't mean it's not gonna bite you. PLAIN and SIMPLE. |
